my dad always had ferrets, lurchers, air riffles when i was growing. my uncle was also into lurchers so hunting has always been around me. seen allsorts when i was growing up. has soon as i was old enough to get out on my own i have. spent hours and hours when i was a young lad with a couple of mates wondering the fields bird nesting, ferreting with just a ferret, a few nets, no dog or locator. down the brook catching bullheads and sometimes getting lucky and catching a trout. some of the best days of my life which i wouldnt change even if i could. lived out in the sticks those days so i had some farmers sons for mates and plenty of land to wonder about on.

The late great John Darling, loved his articles in Airgunner...I've still got his book I read dozens of times as a lad

I met a couple halfway around the world last year, the guy was british,he told me he came from seaford, the name rang a bell and I asked him had he ever met a guy called John Darling, turns out he knew JD well and drank in the local pub with him, said he was a true all round gent and a great guy.

My daddy, took us fishing and hunting from very young. All sorts of fishing, hunting was mostly shooting and ferreting. Lamping didn't come into my life till I was about 14. When my dad and brother bred a litter of lurchers, took a year before I could get a pup out of the second litter. That was MoChara first lurched pup ever obviously still out there having a sleep in the kennel

I remember out lamping with my brother - first ever heart racing moment seeing my own dog slipped, proper shaking I was so nervous and my god what a buzz it was hearing the wee squeaks in the distance!!

Not sure influence would be the right word but the first person who ever got me interested in hunting was an old boy i saw walking with his hound along a lane near my home after id moved out of London, his dog was in immaculate nick and it just struck me odd that an old man would have a dog in such fine shape so i stopped and spoke to him about the dog and we seemed to hit it off so ive tried to attach myself to the old boys side as regular as possible ever since :D ....the dog is long gone now but he opened my eyes to a world i was completely ignorant to and for that im very grateful.

My dad & to a lesser extent a black & tan terrier bitch called skip......

He took me everywhere, encouraged me & provided me with the right tools (in several ways).....

& in his absence she taught me how to trust a dog & dig only to the sounds of faint grunts & rumblings as a very young lad :-)
