Question For The Lads Who Are Into Boxing

Recommended Posts

probably no right or wrong answer here just opinion.

i was sparring a while ago, first time in about 4 years under boxing rules, about 2 years muay thai\full contact KB.

anyway i got the better of the lad i was in with but it wasnt a war,the lad grabbed hold of me,coach said break, but instead of taking a full step back i just stepped back with my lead leg then stepped in with another shot,a bad habit from thai i think.

as soon as i through the shot i knew it was wrong and would have apologised had the lad not put his hands down tried to square up to me gobbin off etc,the coach said stop and confirmed i needed to take a full step back.

as the coach was explaining to me exactly what id done the lad was stood behind me and hit me with a right hook and we got back into it for a few seconds before we got split up,and both told to feck off.

is it just me or is that a massive overreaction?

in my mind it's not just overreacting it makes him a shithouse who needs to wait until my backs turned.

Under boxing you step back no shots thrown till told to box on so you was wrong and he was also wrong but he was sly fecka for waiting till you had back turned but protect your self at all time even when told to break he didn't you couldn't atb Flacko

By the sound of it he took a liberty....but so did you.........break should mean theres enough distance between you to reset for your next attack.......not continue the last one.

Dont stress on it too much we all aim for gym etiquette but personally i dont think theres anything wrong with keeping it lively after all sparring can become monotonous sometimes.

Technically you should step out of range and reset as gnash said. But to come at you from behind.. Cnut's trick

Made a good mate turn his back on the sport and never speak to me again. whilst sparring muay thai one day, blood got up after he landed a full power shin into my thigh. I thought he'd feckin done me in  and reacted with an elbow to the side of his head and that was that. Tbh he was a fanny for acting like a bitch. Things that happen during sparring should stay there Imo.

So the guy gave you a sly cheeky one,and he's a shithouse so what? Get over it, he might have thought you were a shithouse for hitting him on the break, go shake hands with the man have another session and put it behind you, or the pair of you stay shithouses forever
