Would You Take A Newbie Out For A Dig?

I have asked myself that question recently, and honestly I'm not sure I would. I am fairly new to the terrier game myself, and was lucky enough to be mentored by a proper old dog man, until he sadly passed away. But with the way things are going in the hunting world, with pressure from anti's, dog thieves and just general bell ends, I'm not sure I would risk taking someone who is starting out, but that I couldn't vouch for 100% for a mooch with the dogs.

On the other hand without people willing to teach others, does this mean a slow death and a loss of precious experience and advice for the digging game? What do you gents think?

i whuld have no problems taking a newbie out if he was alright evryones got to start somewere and depending who new starters go out with first has a big shout on how they conduct ther selvs in the futre

As a newbie I am very grateful to a man on here for taking me out but also understand the apprehension that some may feel about such a situation but like zilverhaze has said we all start somewhere I have been told the terrier world is some what of a closed shop like I have said in other posts on here my farther used to dig as a young man and used to take me and my brother when we were lads he can only advise me now as he is wheel chair bound but nothing can teach you more than experience and if no one would've taken me out I would've done it alone and tryed to learn from my dad's advice

I have been know to go out my way with some of the local up and coming young uns to try educate them a little but I've given up on this as I noticed no matter what is said or shown to them they will just go ahead and make the same mistakes I did as soon as I'm not around, so now I don't bother and let them learn the hard way.

I'm all for helping in any way I can to educate with the little knowledge I have as im still learning but I'm never on for wasting me time.

If it wasn't 4 my mate taking me an giving me a couple ov well bread pups I don't know where I would be every 1 got to start some where so in my eyes every 1 should get a chance an pointed in the rigth way if they done take ur anvise dont take them again

Newbie to what tho hunting game or to yourself , if you know of the lad or man it makes it a lot easier than say s complete stranger but even some of the lads you know can turn into proper prickss after a few outings its a hard one but you got to have a bit of trust else no one will carry on the sport atb Flacko

I have taken lads out as long as they are know by someone, I have offen taken out tearaways off the estate near me and other estates lamping I think it dose them good, and one or two get a dog and dont look back gives them something different to do in stead off play stations and sat about and I am sure more young tearaways would benefit from it .

Trouble is, with camera phones and social media nothing remains discreet and quiet. The dicks who put their macho blood lust pics on Facebook and the like, make life difficult for those that love the countryside, respect their quarry and want to work within the guidelines. Ignorant and ego fuelled cowboys will be the death of the sport

there are many problems with taking young uns out in this day and age. some folk you just cant show a blackies nest. and next time your checking your earths you could find peg holes in the mounds. and empty earths. when you chat to your farmer he might say.....aye bob said it would be fine if he popped over and checked em for you. a lot of folk in the hunting game are very needy. and cant help themselves. this little error of judgement is of course seen as a betrayal of trust and can often turn into decades of bitterness. often spilling out onto the world wide web

Very true lol but got to give lads a chance, my lad is 20 now and it has kept him out of bother the dog game and rugby like kids have to be given the chance.

Ok so this wasn't digging but I have a permission where you can not clear the rabbit took a friend of a friend there as a favour to give his young dog something in its mouth 3 weeks later driving past I see a lamp on my perm so I fly out there and catch the twat red handed

Nope. All that walking and searching for fox earths and putting down artificials for somebody else to get the benefit I'm afraid not. That was the reason I took a short break from terrier work in 1993 going to earths that were either wrecked or not even an attempt made to back fill just sickened me.
