gnasher16 30,470
Dirty, filthy smelly rat hole. We won't even work down there, will not travel inside the m25. We do have a few customers ring us now and then and tell them all the same, bring it to us, send it by carrier or do what you want with it but we're not coming into the cesspit you call town! haven't been near the place in 30 years. I live a few hundred yards inside the m25 my gaff backs onto a golf course surrounded by beautiful woods and countryside as is the next village along......as is the same even as far down as places like Epsom and Leatherhead.......my guess is you wouldnt be turning your nose up at these places......particularly if you come from somewhere like the Black Country.......not exactly Beverley Hills is it Well to be honest we live in the heart of the black country, back on to a farm, in a road full of either business owners, self employed or professionals, a few hundred yards from open green spaces and a pool, a 5 minute drive from the Worcestershire countryside and 10 minutes from several stately homes and country parks. So yep, London is a shithole. And you started the willy waving I could be really childish here......but i wont be as my point is made in that you obviously realise that even shitholes have nice parts. Of course they do, everywhere does. I think you'll find when folk refer to "london" they don't mean the leafy suburbs where it's nice to live, they mean the doghole of a city. I only know london from going to the motor show years ago and delivering beer to various depots around there, silvertown, bow, wembley amongst others ring a bell. Used to other deliveries around the area a long time ago now. We used to go in convoy following a cockney driver through the main routes and return through the back streets. Everywhere we went was an absolute dive. My son goes to Hyde park every now and then to see some mates on the fair, and he says it's still a dirty place in the city, rubbish everywhere. reason we will not work there is all the stupid anti vehicle regulations, if the council there want to make it awkward then let them, it's no skin off our nose, plenty of work up here. It's not us that loses out, it's the Londoners, the one's the council is supposed to be supporting.

Of course theres going to be toilets its a capital city all capital cities have dirty places.....doesnt mean to say its all like that even in the City and West End i mean you would hardly call places like Compton Ave or The Boltons dives !!......Compare it to other capital cities,we have no skyscrapers,we have open spaces, plenty of daylight at street level, plenty of free entertainment,culture,history,nightlife......to have some of the best maintained and most expensive properties on the planet yet still retain almost a market town feel in some places is pretty remarkable.....at the end of the day London is one of the most important cities in the world a little country like this should be proud of that. keepitcovert 842
Worked down there on and off for about ten years in the 80s campden, islington, couldnt wait to get home, and when i got home couldnt wait to get back, just the craic when your younger. First time was a bit of a culture shock, driving round looking for the place we were staying, kept stopping to ask directions, and no bugger spoke english, used to use a couple of pubs near islington green, the old pied bull, and the mitre, probably wine bars now, once went on the piss with shane mcgowan and his mates, one of the lads on site was a mate of his. Lived in hull at the time and people down there used to say to me thats a rough hole isnt it, christ after london its like comparing chalfont st giles to beirut. mackem 27,530
Theres London and then theres London, some areas are dives,my brother lives in deptford and its a sh*thole but as he said after sunderland its like a breath of fresh air,the only really bad place I can remember living in the smoke was the isle of dogs but thats been gentrified nowadays, most guys upcountry class anywhere within the M25 as london it aint all built up with barrow-boys pearly-kings and pie-and-mash shops,I can be walking along the thames 5 minutes from leaving the door countryside all round, fantastic fishing some guy got a 17 lb barbel from the local stretch, which also has some big carp, decent pike and zander, its common to see muntie I see fox very often, couple of times a week you will spot one in the daylight, rabbits everywhere, its not all high-rises,crack-dealers and gridlock-traffic,thats a stereotypical misconception from the dark ages,London attracts how many 16?17 million tourists a year, something attracts them,we are steeped in centuries of history, the tube-system is a doddle to navigate, but anyone who is averse to visiting thats cool, different strokes for different folks.

Your right, there is london and there is london, and there is no fresh air in central london, thats why people are going round wearing them stupid masks all the time! but i think most of us are talking about the same london, the centre, 16/17 million tourists are going out to the outskirts are they, its all central London. As far as night life goes i think thats very poor aswell, never an atmosphere or a proper good ole tear and very few will socialise with ya, since ive been working here ive never had a hangover that i said was worth getting other than ones where we went out of london for, liverpool, newcastle, Nottingham and the likes! I dont think id fish on the thames in central london either, small bit of a pollution problem there i think, lol. But there are some nice parts im sure, i was down in hyde park not so long ago for a look and that was very nice, the herds of red walking around made my feet very itchy!!! Last point, the tubes are super, aslong as its off peak.... Early morn and office hours finishing times its not so nice being rammed into them with not enough room to get your hand up to scratch your head!! Hands in your pockets or else the foreign lad beside ya will have his in there instead!! Lol.
