Always work 2 steps ahead when it comes to dealing with the farming community, it'll save you getting ripped off.

This is the reason I'm keen on business cards to leave with a local client and to provide a rapid service for small recurring invasions.

Big boy on the quad wont want to travel 40 mile for a couple of moles, whereas you will because that's the type of local service you provide.

I think of the moler in two ways. The local guy that knows the land and fishes with a line in a sustainable manner with a decent humble touch.

Or the deep sea trawler that comes through scraping the bed and taking all the profits before moving on to another county.

Keep it local and honest is the way forward in my opinion, and that's after a lifetime in farming.

And another in the fence run today, bloody hell it's like a turkey shoot. Pulled all traps today as some snow due up here for the weekend into next week and I need paying for what's already up.

So week off and time to get the greenhouse fired up and the tunnels fumigated.

I've been doing a garden job for the last four or five weeks. Initially I got 3 on the first visit and 4 on the next one, so I left 4 traps in and went back every few days to check them. I'm up to 24 now and there has never been a time when I didn't have a mole to take out of the trap. Best result was 5 in 4 trap sites. And to look at the garden you wouldn't have thought there were more than two moles in there. Just about half an acre of grass with a few shrubs and trees around the borders. All the traps are well into the garden in runs that are not visible to anyone who doesn't know what to look for. The trap sites are now as slack as Joan Collins' snatch but they are still catching.
