scutty96 314
I'm thinking of starting to keep a few gamefowl but don't really know where to start, I know that I would like to keep American gamefowl, but I'm not sure wether to buy birds in or eggs. I have seen eggs for sale on ebay but I don't think it's a good idea to get them from there. I have decided that to start I will probably keep 3 pairs or trios, does anyone have any fowl or eggs for sale? I would be willing to travel anywhere I suppose for the right birds. Also does anyone know where I could find some good plans of pens to build? Thanks
Chicken_man 1,651
Hi mate, Can't help you out, but there are decent men on here, and about. I'm sure someone will see you right. Twobobdog1 has a thread on here with a good set up for internal pens, scroll through the older threads and maybe some ideas too. I would imagine later on in the season for birds, most folk will have birds paired up for breeding just now, and spare stuff later on. Eggs are your other option from good stock. Others may have different opinions. Good luck, and I hope you find what your looking for. Atb
scutty96 314
Okay thanks for your help, I'll take a look at that thread, would any one recommend any books on gamefowl? Cheers
Chicken_man 1,651
Gamefowl breeders manual - volume 2 ( Kenny Troiano ). All for the back yard breeder, focusing on American fowl, but can be used for all fowl. Covering most subjects, easy to understand. I like it, others may not. It's what suits you. Lots of old books too for your collection. Check out Amazon, or flea bay, search Gamefowl books. Good luck :-)
Bootsha 1,306
Okay thanks for your help, I'll take a look at that thread, would any one recommend any books on gamefowl? Cheers mate, i wish you all the best of luck, when i started up no f****r would help you, all top secret, secret lines " your not in the game" etc etc, so in short, how the f**k ppl expect new lads wanting to start up is beyond me, its almost like the mafia, you may have to resort to some eggs off ebay to start with mate. Eventually, after about 2 years pestering someone, he relented and gave me a few pullets, i found a stag or two and im away. But dont expect to be paying egg layer prices for these birds, they are not cheap, IF you can find someone to sell you some. I wish you all the best of luck with your quest, but they are very addictive, you will spend hours just sat watching themlol, i do for sure. all the best mate
