Dranny GLC 112
Iv got a collie greyhound he is 14 months old. From a pup Iv had his recall and retrieving bang on but at 10 months he got injured and the bone man advised me not to run him till March. I run him last week on lamp and after ever catch he would retrieve to me and just as I was about to get the rabbit he would run off and stay about 10 feet away from me and everytime I walked closer to him he would go further away. So I'd turn my back and walk off then he would drop it far away and follow me. Any suggestion?

Fieldsporthunter 1,864
Pups that age do tend to mess about a little, its all a game and not a job at this stage. Try turning your back on the dog and squating down as he comes in, he should come round to the front of you, as he does ignore the rabbit for a while slowly put your arm around the dog and gently pull him into you with plenty praise. be calm, relaxed, take your time theres no rush, after a while slowly put your hands on his rabbit don't be in a rush to take it off him. Watch your dog you will know when its the right time to take the rabbit from him and when you do be slow and sure. Sounds like you might of taking his fist few rabbits off him too quickly stopping the game and your pups thinking I'm not bringing it to you for the fun to end. At the first stages I try being as much as part of the "fun and games" with my pups as possible. I trie make my pups think its just as rewarding bringing bunny to me as it is catching it.
