How many of you guys make a living from shooting or pest control? I'm 28 and want a career change the problem I've got is I have a well paid job but hate it! I want to do something I enjoy either farming or pest control but there is nothing near me, plus I've got 3 kids, and house that all needs paying for!

I've been round farms and local shoots etc but nothing ever comes up what do you suggest.. Cheers

Aup mate. I get paid for a lot of the work I do. I also have 3 kids and 1 on the way. I have a full time job but start 6am-2pm so leaves me a lot of time for shooting. I used to charge fuel and ammo but now charge for callouts, and buy the amount I shoot. I earn minimum wage from work and also hate it but hopefully in the next 2-3 years ill have enough shooting work to sufficientley provide for my needs. Only trouble with shooting is a lot of it the success depends on the weather as you know.

I find it hard to charge for the shooting I do. One farmer rang me last week and said get up to his to clear some foxes which I did but if I say it will cost him then he would probably get someone else in, I also clear crows and pigeons for most of the farms! I had a farmer give me permission last week on 350 acres to clear rabbit and fox off his but don't want to charge as it's more land! I start work at 7am and don't get home till about 6pm which is a pain! Cheer ?

Quick question mate who do you get your insurance from for these paid jobs? As you can imagine I'm covered by estate PLI but if I go off estate wondered who would be the best insurer

don't really make a living from it , more like get by, have to rely on another job at the moment , although I am self employed.

I too am building up the pest control things , but have waited until the mortgage is almost gone and children are now grown up and in careers of their own.

most of my income has come from mole catching , not shooting , you will be very lucky indeed to get a living from shooting alone.

this and many other forums are flooded with people desperate for shooting permission, and they all will do it for free.
