Saw one this morning in the Usk! It came right to the bank and I was stood on top about 10 feet away, once it saw us it was gone like a flash.

There a few white ones in my area. Big white dog from last year has produced 2 white young this year. There seem regular by joe public

I've put a fair bit of badger fencing in for folk over the last few years. But in the last few months I've had 3 calls to put otter fencing up. 2 on fisheries and one on a chicken unit. I didn't even know we had them local. I spent an hour or two down the banks of my local river/stream and they are definitely there. Once you start looking, the signs are there

Any time mate, you know that. I couldn't believe it, was working on the river bank this morning (patching up some stone work) had a cuppa I went to put a banker in then Jake came running up like a mad man shouting (in a whisper) Otter, Otter!!! and there it was slimming along the edge of the bank! When it stopped and realised we were there it look and I don't know why but I squeaked and it was gone waited and watch for about 10 mins but no sign!! it was about 0.5miles from the shed where I was living!!

Put some heavy duty gear in matey. They will bite through standard chicken/rabbit mesh.....

I think the introductions made recently were of the European otter rather than our own native which is a tad bigger than ours .Dont know if its fact or hearsay .We have some artificial holts on backwaters here covered in rushes .Surprised we havnt come across one yet .

I'm not sure this is correct mate. I believe at least some of the original otters used in captive breeding were live trapped in the north of Scotland.

Otters dont do much damage on a salmon river ...I would rather have a pair of otters on my beat than a pair of sawbills
