Pick and bar 381
Solid little lad, hope he comes good for you. Yes Fatman the breed is fading. Look back to the 80's and 90's to see what has gone in our time. We need enthusiates to keep and test em proper, not chasing red rosettes. 3 Quote Link to post

Bosun11 537
Dotty your dead right where GM is concerned. In all the years i knew him, he was always trying to help others and gave as much as he sold... Just reading back on this thred... Funny what people think is a Lakey, as with other breeds. Me, i've been around long enough to only see; Lakies as only black n tans. Blacks as simply 'Blacks' or Patterdales. ANY white dogs are Russells but feck all of that Parson or White Lakie bollox! Any mixed type, including reds and chocolates, no matter what coat type as Fell type terriers... Now thats gonna piss plenty off but thats it in a nutshell and if ya think anything else, your trying too hard... Colour only defines type but work defines terriers..!! Quote Link to post
pablo esc 1,598
Fatman, it is just that all the lakies seen and worked in the last 30 years or so, some looked more than the part, but didn't want to work properly to ground, except with another dog or end of dig. And the hammer something in front but wouldn't do any work start to finish and others just wanted to kill the dog who had done the digging to. Other one more names 45 minutes great, but that's it, others of man, 2nd season, jib, face nothing great. Yes i mightbbelieve the some maybe working ability bitches out there, how good i don't know. Yeah know what your saying,as i said have not seen or even know of a good lakey in a long time. The little bitch i had would never win a show but she was an honest working bitch and worked up until she was 11-12 year old.She also through a few good pups the couple of times she was bred, some that went on to make a good name for themselves working wise. She was put to a dog called FRITZ once,he was 3/4 lakey 1/4 fell and she had 5 pups which all worked and worked well,1 of which was Bonzo who was a right good dog but alas there all well gone now and i dont even know of any lakeys about anymore let alone good ones. pablo esc 1,598
The ones we saw and knew had faults bred or made into them. I remember a few that weren't as well lookers but worked away fine. I had two by chance about 12 years ago, one was Patterdale, cross lakeland, that was sold to me, and i didn't know it had spewed it, the lads were putting all kinds down, and places. It worked well for the season and then spewed it at the end but i carried on digging later in the season after meeting a guy. The other was a grey dog and was okay but i sold it cheap to a ( mate), and that was there talk then, and no more came back to me. Quote Link to post
