Feeding with quads

Has anybody used a quad with trailer and spinner to feed in preference to static feeders or inconjunction with statics ,did it give better results ie keeping birds near woods rides ??Also has anyone used game spice-drawer to encourage birds to feed,or to hold birds nearer to feeders?

got a solway quad mounted feed spreader, its a good piece of kit, spice drawer or annaseed oil/powder works well, they will both help hold your birds... if you do use both i would put plain feed in statics and flavour the feed your spreading on the ride..

I've all my birds fed on a quad and solway trail spinner its down to how much you put down with it that determins how your birds react.If you feed heavy with it,Its the same as hopper feeding,feed light its just the same as hand feeding the birds will run to it if hungary enough.Some of my drives i whistle on the quad its all down to the nature of that drive and the timing when you want your birds there to be shot.One thing that is a bonus is mine fits under the trailer hatch so no bagging up wheat anymore so it's saving labour that way.

i have always done quite well with spice or aniseed flavour on my wheat, i fill the hoppers from august onwards and find that the birds will return to the feeders once the wild food crop is gone, works for me

I have used a quad never again the foog goes mouldy ans shitty on the feed rides then you end up with sick birds and a big bill it alright using wheat as long as you keep re-strawing the rides..

Haven't you ever thought you might be putting to much food down.As i said in my previous post its no difference to hand feeding or hopper feeding.Its you who controls how much you give em not your birds.

I know but if you have a fixed feed ride and cant move it hand feeding is better.And i suppose if you have a huge estate to run quad feeding is 1 of a few options.

we use a trailer with a stocks slug pelleter mounted on the tailgate. just fill the trailer with wheat and off ya go. its a great way of doing it, you can feed at times when you will be shooting that drive so as to get the birds there, its easier to control the birds to where you want them and at times you want them there.

IMO pure whistling by hand tends to give better results if you have the time, with statics hoppers in the out laying woods, if you have more than one static hopper on the main whistled feed ride they tend to stop coming to the whistle, unless you make it hard for the birds to feed on the static hopper/s like make the springs to high for them to reach so they have to jump ,using hoppers only, for me never works well even with hundreds of them.

I still tend to whistle my birds by hand until late November by that time of year the birds shouldn't go then i put a home made spinner on my pickup truck fitted with mud tyres and feed them in the mornings and let the static AUTOMATIC spinners do the evening feeds , with hoppers in the outlying areas , As for spices , feeding maize, raisins, millet, etc etc... iv tried them all with no clear results either way

As to whether it gives better results I think that depends on more than just how you feed them, lots of factors like if you have cold woods ,crap game plots, lots of vermin and disturbance ,even what the crops are in the nearby fields each year, iv been keepering for a few years and i still carnt put my finger on what makes the birds stay one year and evaporate the next, I think most keepers would agree if their honest, you work really hard one year and they all piss off, the next year you do half the work and you have a great season,
