cocpops 19
Out on a permission last night the first time in months. I've been giving it a rest as the numbers just aren't there anymore. Through the summer I hardly seen any so left them alone, hoping their numbers would recover. There's been touch of maxi. Anyway I did see a few but they were very alert and skittish. I was using NV my buddy was using a lamp. We were a fair distance apart, When I noticed his light searching my area. Thinking that's a bit odd started over. The light went off and a few minutes later I realised it wasn't my mate. It was a bloody shooter who scarpered. I watched him cut away over fields into the distance. Tried to head him off but he must have knew we were following as he dissappeared. ! I suspected this was happening as the past 2 years aside from the lack of rabbits their reaction to a lp is incredible. Any suggestions how to deal with poachers. RIP.JD 21
You could try trail cameras, since NV has come along I'm sure a few of my permissions are having visitors. I've found random dead rabbits which haven't been picked up..

Plummerterrier 291
Yeah leave him alone and find your own land to poach. Jojes aside Just tell the land owner to keep an eye out. Make the guy poaching sound bad ie shot at a fox with air rifle or something
tsteve9999 456
I should think he has permission on a nearby farm and is roaming a bit, getting caught somewhere you shouldn't be with a firearm is armed trespass, not many would just rock up somewhere and try it. bobcullen79 1,495
Yeah leave him alone and find your own land to poach. Jojes aside Just tell the land owner to keep an eye out. Make the guy poaching sound bad ie shot at a fox with air rifle or something "Make him sound bad" So basically fit him up ffs. If its not going your way, lie. Showing your true colours... If you want to sort out the poaching coco, get up there a bit more regular. Knock up a couple of signs, whatever, make your presence felt. You probably got visitors because they`ve not seen anyone else on the land and thats probably one of the biggest invites.
rabbit demon 302
Very hard to catch them, any time any of my mates were caught poaching was because the keeper or bailiffs ended up hiding in bushes and literally had to sneak about in the dark (sometimes day) so they could catch them. Persistance, patients and time that could be spent doing something more productive. Is it worth it for a couple of rabbits though ?... You have a added danger where the guys armed and you dont know him or what he'll do if you try nab him. id say just report it to land owner and let him deal with it. charlie caller 3,654
Just a question, followed by a word of caution, what are you going to do if you catch/confront him? Dont forget you will be remonstrating with a man with a firearm possibly, who you (I assume) dont know, make damn sure you have another witness with you, and film him, even if your plan is just to tell him not to come back or the police will be called, you really do have very limited authority, even though the man is committing armed trespass on your land, even a keeper only has the authority to escort a poacher from his employers land, a confrontation between two armed men in the dark is not the best way to spend an evening, nor is spending the night in a cell answering a charge of threats to kill with a firearm, film any and all conversations you have with him, this in 99.9% of cases should put off a wandering neighbour, as you have evidence of armed trespass against him.
