Hahah my staffords faster than most game dogs if you read what i said i need tips advice on how to get him to focus on a single scent theirs no problem with him retrieving or finding he's more alert and has a higher prey drive i don't just want him to fetch a dead rabbit lol id buy a gun dog if i wanted that i want him driving the rabbits towards me he's had plenty of rabbits when i haven't been hunting just on a casual walk, but cheers for stereotyping and the shit advice ;):toast:

My son used to take our staff ferreting, he was fast as lighting over the first 20 or so yards but had no real staying power, he's past it now at 7, the dog not my son, and suffers the next day if he gets on a bolter whilst we're out walking. Used to be able to mark a burrow to some extent but not the real deal. They are what they are although with some perseverance you may get it close to what your after:)

had a pit x staff and she used to ferret , retrieve, clever thing she was, wasnt that she was bought as a hunting dog , just the case it was my exs pet and took it out, really good , high prey drive , seen her tackle deer in cover, seriously lacked speed but had lots of fun on rats , sounds to me like theres not a right lot you can do with your staff other than keep putting stuff in front on him and he will either learn or not !

Hi, we're having a sudden rat infestation on our small holding in North Cotswolds. Wondering if there are any people around with ratting dogs who want a bit of work?
