lifelong cumbrian 1,826
I managed to get the twine in the end. Got 4 bowls of canary yellow which is what i had before. Still had 3/4 of a bowl left from last time so used that up and it knit fine. Then started to use the new stuff, it twists up, tried loading the needle off the bowl different ways and it is still the same, i had to throw a lot of the first bowl out, was all twisted on the bowl, i should have taken a picture. It might be just that bowl but i am reluctant to try the others. Any of you lads had problems with it. Quote Link to post

Sorry to here that Joe,, there's deffo a problem with the Twines, no matter what way one loads the needle the defects in the twine, nowt to do with agouti though, but he needs to get this issue sorted with the manufacturers, I think a new fitter/engineer is what the twine makers need as the present one is a cock ... Regards.. 2 Quote Link to post

Anything you buy new should be fit for purpose and this isn't, as you say not agoutis fault so he should also be refunded. 1 Quote Link to post

Problem is Joe they dont give a toss, Nigel wont get a refund as they'll use the same old excuses "this isnt manufactured to make nets." they know there's a problem with the twist in the twines from time to time but my guess is it'll cost them far too much to replace/repair any defect in the machine, while there still getting sales nothing will change. This is the main reason i'm looking to get in top quality twines for the guys, these clowns currently manufacturing it are taking the piss out of all of us 2 Quote Link to post
lifelong cumbrian 1,826
I decided to try one of the other bowls, knit a net with it no problem, hopefully it is only the one that is faulty. It was in a very bad state but from the top you could not tell. Will just take it to work, will do for plumb bobs and marking out string etc. I was going to send it back but if you are right Les, Nigel will not get compensated so will take the hit, would cost me as much for postage. smithie 2,443
i would be sending it back all the same, hit on postage or not. hes never going to sourse better twine if people just suck up the shortfall in quality Quote Link to post
Mr Wilkes 2,984
There really is only one place to buy decent twine , no fancy colours tho. Quote Link to post
lifelong cumbrian 1,826
I used the gammy twine on the last row of the net from the join, the other was my old stuff. I cut the gammy row out and finished the net with the good twine. Quote Link to post
comanche 2,956
I've never had any problems. I'd guess purse-net making is only a small-almost incidental- part of the market for bulk spun-poly for the factories that turn it out by the pallet load. I've had the old bolt that seems more prone to kinking more than most, but nothing that hasn't been reasonably alleviated by loading the needle in alternating directions. Back to the pink twine; like a lot of spun poly it bulks up a bit with use -especially after a few wettings- but I reckon along with lime green it is one of the easiest colours to see during those late afternoon winter pick-up sessions . Even the hi-viz yellows dull down after a while, the red gets dingy but even in a down pour the pink just seems to stay pink . Unfortunately Agouti was out of pink a couple of weeks ago when I tried to order some. Whether that means its popular and sells out , or unpopular and not worth keeping in stock ,who knows . Well I expect Nigel knows . Quote Link to post
