forest of dean redneck 11,609
Just thinking ,other night I drove to Hereford an back via different back roads, I didn't see any rabbits either dead or alive, Does anyone think that the rabbit could become really rare or extinct in years to come on mainland Britain.

gnipper 6,484
It's absolutely shit around here. I'm hoping the few stragglers get a good breeding season this year and myxi etc goes easy on them.
bunny tickler 876
i allways get some stick for this but one day i reckon a close season is on the cards ,its ok for the lucky lads who have protected spots on private farms/estates & the dales. but the common ground rabbit is in serious decline , ferreting over the years the areas produce less & less numbers you can only kill them once ,but with everything against them these days & nights there can only be one outcome
The Seeker 3,048
Rabbit numbers have decreased dramatically on my permissions. Used to be moving with them now I'm lucky to see one or two on a walk round.
Truther 1,579
I dropped a few locally to build the numbers up, and some new genes don't hurt, told the local lads, and asked them not to ferret everything out, give em a chance like, bumped into some lads from another area a few months back, and told them we'd all agreed not to ferret, and they said "ok mate, we'll just have a walk with the dogs" then i catch em ferreting a couple of weeks back
rabbit demon 302
never saw many rabbits here in ire where i am for about 16 year. Now there seems to be plenty around. Mixy almost wiped them all out. Heard last year a woman was looking for a mixy rabbit because the rabbits were digging up her grass in her garden but she didnt want anyone on her property hunting them because her kids are animal lovers and they wouldnt like to see bunnys getting killed. Dont think they understand how mixy works. Place where i go hunting now is crawling with rabbits.

Yes and all in a few short years, two or three, this does seem like a worrying trend, I have some ground that still has lots, but everytime I visit my heart is in my mouth, hoping the dreaded myxy does not strike, but as said rabbits are the ultimate survivor, and their fecundity is such that I expect they will bounce back, one farm I have been shooting on for 30 years or more used to have a decent amount, and come october there were some lovely little three/four hole sets to train the young ferrets, that always held a bunny or three, but now everyone is a fu*king badger set

Hopefully it won't become like belgium......it was months before I spotted a rabbit! lol....I see better populations in public parks than on farm land here....
J Darcy 5,871
IMO it isn't anything to do with myxi.....rabbits in the UK are on a downward trend and have been for the last decade at least. There is some other force at work I think, but I don't know what exactly....
DEERMAN 1,020
Have a few spots where until last season there was just a few ,but last season seemed to explode and this had some very good bags off these spots , caught one with myxi last year towards end of season and thought that's that then but still there in numbers this season
