gnipper 6,488
It could be a young cock bird mate, you'd have to get some carophyll and pull a couple of his breast feathers out and see if it colours up. You can still mule with them too.
seany 54
Cheers lads you live and learn. Do you know what though I wouldnt dream of shafting someone like that
fireman 10,931
We've all had it done to us and like the dog world there's some fecking scroats about for sure but as Gnipper says get some colour feed and pluck a 1/2 dozen chest feathers out and if a cock there'll grow back red.I do see a silver ring on it's leg and i think there a few years old now the ioa silver ring, maybe 2 or 3 years and the redpoll isn't really a long living bird i'm afraid either... Good luck it's a cock and remember a mule will sing what it hears so play it a goldie song and although it won't be as clear as a goldie mule it'll sound something like one

gnipper 6,488
I got ripped off a few times with birds over the years. There's a lot of people buying birds just to sell at auctions and sales etc so there's a good chance the seller actually thought it was a linnet, I'd be careful to make sure its rung correctly too if I was you.
