Net Making

If the spool of twine has a defect in it then no matter how one loads a needle, or load the needle from vertical or horizontal position then there's not much you can do ,, apart from hank as much of the defect of the spool and if ones lucky there can be twine to be saved that will knit good .. I was busy the other day loading a Norwegian type needle which the spool of twine was horizontal and I noticed whilst loading the needle the twine had a mind of its own!,, the diameter of the twine suddenly took a turn for the worst :hmm: .. I stopped loading, cut the twine and started hanking the twine of the spool by hand until the defect sorted itself ,, I will take a picture of the net that I was making as I was re-loading the needle to finish the net ,, why I didn't take a few hanks of the loaded needle at the time was My own fault as you will see 50 pence meshes once the pictures up :cray: ... . Today at work  I made five 4ft purse nets ,, using both types of needles and as I was at work the spool was sitting vertical !! No issues at all ,, the twine was perfect to work with.

In the past I have used twines from the Top players in the net and twine industry from all over the world,, and now and again even the big boys make a mistake regarding the quality control department .. Sorry if Im blabbing a load of shit !! its been a stressful week

:D

My son knocked this up for me and it seems to work.

OK netrigger you loaded the needle with the spool sitting vertical so the twine was coming of from the top of the spool to bottom of the spool and so on that would work but in the video he's loading the needle from of the top of the spool and its coming off coiled like an elongated spring

That was my point

I load mine off the vertical and as I'm starting the net I turn the ring on the hook so I'm always knitting from left to right for the first eight rows after that I don't bother , it seems like starting a net each to there own preferance when loading a needle

i put mine on the washing line, got one of them what pulls out, i put the twine through the hole on the needle n just go up n down the needle turning it to go on the other side but still some of my nets twist but they still work im still new and im learning every time i start a net at the minute im on with a gate/stop net and ive loaded the needle the same way n this one hasnt twisted yet i also find that if the ring isnt secure then the net twist i only use as little string as an anchor to prevent the twist these fellas know alot more than me iand they could help more than me im just giving my opinion how im experiencing net making as a newbie atb dont give up

Don't think I've had much bother since I started mainly making nets from spun but the thinner nylon and three strand hemp used to be a barstool ,but during the summer I'm intending to clear my feet finish the last of the spun and finish the double 4 z Gate net and hemp net I've started and go back to making a load of hemp nets with the hemp ive had for a couple of year so time will tell

Sorry Leeview ,, I never even looks at the video regarding which way the twine was coming of the spool,, I have always found if ones loading the needle whilst the spools vertical then good luck to them as its damned impossible to get the spool sitting on a surface as the inner cone spool usually sticks out more ! on the left or the right ,, There is left hand lay and right hand lay twines ,, all down to the folk that actually spool the twine up,, .. I was working away real and nice the other day then ,,, !!! Twisty !! its a fault ! .. picture to follow

My advice would be to use a dog lead clip, which swivels, on the Ring (if you attach twine directly to it). When a couple rows are done it will spin a little and keep the Net from twisting on itself. Double knot every time, regardless of the twine you use. Take your time and keep the tension even. There are several different ways guys find easy for them to make Nets, find yours. As said it's nice to catch with what you have made.
