Leeview 791
Thanks for the help lads, Just ordered everything I need from agouti, hopefully I don't find it too hard to knit them i'm waiting for some stuff to come through myself so had a crack with the kitchen string (much to the missus' displeasure!) i found this video tutorial on youtube the most helpful. clear explanation, easy to follow and makes it all sound pretty straight forward. it only took me about 30 minutes to get the knot sorted and meshes an even size (and that was usung a wooden spatula as a meshboard!) as soon as you've got the hang of the knot it should just be a rinse and repeat job for the rows. (i'm hoping!) watch the video through first, then watch it with a loaded needle and keep pausing at each step and you shouldn't struggle too much! it shouldn't take more than a couple of nets before it becomes something that doesn't require a lot of thought. (but then i do a bit of man knitting with paracord so am used to running lines of the same knot.) I started to watch that vid and did nt get past him loading a needle follow his advice and do it his way and then wonder why your nets twist in length. tip:unload the twine with the spool horizontal thats how they are loaded take the twine off the same way and your nets wont twist Y.I.S Leeview 2 Quote Link to post

Leeview is correct when he says you need to unload the spool horizontal, if you dont then you will add twist to the twine. 1 Quote Link to post
Tiercel 6,986
There are a lot of things that can cause a net to twist. From the tension on the twine when it is spooled, to loading the needle incorrectly. Both Nelson and Leeview are correct in what they say. I would say the biggest factor is loading the needle incorrectly, in that when the needle is twisted when being loaded a twist is put in the twine. I stopped using a normal netting needle around 1980 and never had a twist in a net since. Use a Loomis or Norwegian type of needle load the needle with the spool horizontal and the twine coming off the top of the spool and you will never have a twisted net again. TC 2 Quote Link to post
