Raymond 618
bright coloured ferrets so I can see them better and bells so I can hear them better.Make sure youhave a few spare ones to change as they do get clogged up. I got my bells in a fishing tackle shop. They where connected to a piece of plastic that you connect to the top of your fishing rod as a bite indicator. Didnt like the small cat bells 1 Quote Link to post

Jax13 251
i've been using cat bells, because i've been out on my own more often than not it helps you find the ferret when it gets to a hole as you can hear the bell as it surfaces. saves having the locator bleeping like hell all day too. as an afterthought, i wondered about extra flushing power with them if the sound of the bell getting closer makes the rabbit take off! the biggest issue is getting snagged in the nets, i just try and roll the locator and bell to the underside of the collar where its less likely to snag but to be honest, my jills aren't keen on coming out through nets anyway so it does help know where on the hedge they are. Jamie m 668
Pink bells are best ? we put em on our boots so you can make sure the feckers are still doing a bit and not lying about ? Quote Link to post
northern lad 2,292
Don't use them myself, but the lads Ive been out with who used them tended to end up detangling ferrets from nets frequently, barring this problem Id possibly use them. The bells for the rod tips are ideal for clipping onto the stop/long net if its out of view, had a few extra bunnies because of them Cam,the jills might settle down a bit once they've had more graft under their belt, soon get used to the nets Quote Link to post
ZeusPolecat 185
I prefer to use them, gives you that extra sense of where they are. They can clog up but just need a run under the tap. Can tangle in nets but not often enough to put me off (tracking collars do that anyway). 1 Quote Link to post
johnrthrfrd 223
will they not get stuck in the nets gaz. Never had a problem with that. Quote Link to post
johnrthrfrd 223
Just an idea I nearly lost one of my ferrets at the wkend why doing a large ruff bank, I've not lost one in 18 years and don't plan to either. Just come across some little bells to attach to the collars, do you think this may help or just a daft idea. The ferret snuck out of one of the last holes I guess and disapeared, I found him 200 yards away bolting rabbits lol. Cheers Gaz Get mine off fleabay £3.90 for 6 put cat bells in its the first one that comes up place called blinging pets there great. Quote Link to post
pie-eater 377
I use them in thick brambles. They do clog but theyre not expensive so you can carry a few and change them a couple of times through the day. I put mine on an elastic band rather than the collar in case they snag on something underground. Edited February 27, 2015 by pie-eater Quote Link to post

bobcullen79 1,495
Would the "bell" shaped bells work? Just a thought. Be easy to unclog - if they clogged, just run a twig round the inside. Quote Link to post

OneManAndHisDog 513
Always had bells on the collars of mine, got a cat bell on one and a bell of a chocolate rabbit on the other ha, good help when you can't see the poley coloured in the rough Quote Link to post
The one 8,479
Might be fine if the ferrets walking away on top but I can't see them being much use in a burrow and it's just more on the collar to catch on the nets , that's why I like light coloured ferrets even a glimpse of white movement alerts you there out , and I often place a spare mk1 box at each end of a big burrow so if they start ticking I know there's a ferret near there Quote Link to post
ferretnhound 71
I use bells off th Lindt chocolate raindeer. They don't clog up as easily as others. :-) Quote Link to post
