Setting The Talpex

Recommended Posts

re read your post and yes that is how I'm doing it now, like you say it's a doddle once you have a few goes. Anyone else notice the sharp click that sets the bar once you have set the trap.

flick up with a marker and it sets itself superfine.

Bryn, If you have the trap as you describe, flick the pin over so it is pointing towards you and as you squeeze the handles together you can gather the pin under one thumb and use it as a le

knocking hills down??? That's the customers job

So you're trying the (original) Talpex Bryn, have you given up on the Putange type traps? I'm still undecided whether to get some myself. It would be a shame to get 20 sent over from france and find I

Spraying isn't a bad idea. I generally level off the mounds then set the traps out. I then put mounds of earth over the traps I've set. that way members of the public just think it's a mound but it's the perfect disguised marker for you.

I NEVER do anything with the hills, until the traps are set. Once set, you'd be surprised how many moles you catch as you're knocking the hills flat....

Get the traps in first.....

Thanks for the tip I'll do that. generally I start setting at one end then level off as I go along so I can see where I have been.I'll try your advice, cheers.

What?

Anyway, the talpex is easy to set, once you get the hang of it.

To be honest, ive got such a bloody mixture of traps here, probably around 300 talpex types in total. Someone ran off with what duffus styles traps i had :hmm:

All the ones with the handles on, i am going to chop the fecking things off, as they stack together easier without them... More traps per bucket!

SET THE TRAP and apply a small bit of pressure to the back plate it moves slot like and sets fine.

I've just tried 5 out of the box and they are all the same.

Anyway everything is going out tomorrow and I'll post back late Sunday REGARDS THE RESULTS.

Arthritis mate I have to find alternative methods, the wife keeps telling me to get a grip lol.

I also have problems with my hands Bryn,...that was the reason I suggested the importation of the Talpa...

I knew that I needed the edge, that the handles would give me,..and for a few years I have done real well with them.

Joke was,.I always had a quantity of Dutch Talpex traps in the shed,.but I believed that with my hands I would not manage to set them. I just did not have the strength..

Then,..one day I ran short of traps.

I was working on some manor house garden jobs and a small equestrian place,.just three or four paddocks.

Super sandy ground, ideal for the Dutch connection...

I had most of my Talpa traps out, so I was forced to use the Talpex gang...

Strangely enough,..I managed to set them fairly easily...I was a wee bit shocked... :icon_eek:

Since then, I use the originals every day and I've loads more on order.

They were a truly great trap back in the 1980s, and they are still a great trap now...

So you're trying the (original) Talpex Bryn, have you given up on the Putange type traps? I'm still undecided whether to get some myself. It would be a shame to get 20 sent over from france and find I dont like them, so if you want to offload a couple let me know. I'm not too far from you (south Durham.

I recently got a few Talpas to try, and the handles certainly make a difference to easy setting. If the Talpex is even more powerful then it must be a beast, as these Talpas seem more than adequate for the job.

Having said that more power in the spring will give that extra confidence in heavier soil.
