Setting The Talpex

Recommended Posts

Bloody hell the power in that spring is something else to say the least. Had my first play with them today and must say I'm well impressed with the quality and power, several busted fingers and two hours later I've final found the easy way of setting them and after a little click they are super sensitive also.

Cant wait to get out tomorrow and start this new job.

knocking hills down??? That's the customers job

So you're trying the (original) Talpex Bryn, have you given up on the Putange type traps? I'm still undecided whether to get some myself. It would be a shame to get 20 sent over from france and find I

Cant do pics but the easiest way is to lay the trap flat with the setting pin on the bottom and pointing towards you. Push down with the palm of your hand on the plate handle and flip the pin over and secure.

piece of cake and no cursing once you have had a few goes.

pays to align the plate up centred first.

I've only just started using them and I think they're great! Brilliant for that little sod of a mole which insists on filling your traps up with dirt. I had a job 3 weeks ago and this little sod was giving me the run around for a week. I looked into theses traps ordered a couple and the day after I had set them I had the blighter! Some of these traps have loops on the top of them to make setting easier. Only problem is they stand out a bit when they have been triggered... And are a magnet to two legged pests.

Are they not the Talpa traps with the loops.Talpex is flat bar the shape of a goal post?

Yes your right the ones with the loops are 'Talpas'. I have used the original Talpex as well and the springs are so powerful! I find the Talpas work as well and are able to be pushed into the run walls and break through easily enough once triggered.

Spray the top half black/brown/green and don't use a marker.....they can't nick 'em if they can't find 'em.....

Was thinking about that darcy without a marker i'll never find the buggers though.

Kick a mole hill down either side of the trap. You'll find it then. It is rare I use markers. Only on the real rough stuff. If you need to spray anything will do. I like to dip mine in rustoleum solution....but thats just me.

Spraying isn't a bad idea. I generally level off the mounds then set the traps out. I then put mounds of earth over the traps I've set. that way members of the public just think it's a mound but it's the perfect disguised marker for you.

Bryn,

If you have the trap as you describe, flick the pin over so it is pointing towards you and as you squeeze the handles together you can gather the pin under one thumb and use it as a lever. Makes setting a doddle.

I NEVER do anything with the hills, until the traps are set. Once set, you'd be surprised how many moles you catch as you're knocking the hills flat....

Get the traps in first.....
