airbourne 128
any of you guys using the nite site wolf or viper what do you think would be best for a 17 hmr, what sort of range can you see clear with each, been looking on you tube but the only real vids are of the chaps that are demonstrating them for nite site and they are only shooting 40 - 50 meters. cheers airbourne
goldfinger 135
Hello there airbourne,I am using Nightsite Wolf had it for some time now taking bunnys to 145yrds easily with .17hmr using a Airmax 30 scope shooting at 8x clear sight picture at 145yrds can see easy 300yds depending on conditions, for a .17hmr go for the Wolf you need that extra range with ir at night.I find that at lower magnifications you get a better clearer wider range of vision, at the higher mags field of view narrows and less light gets back through scope.Good luck with your choice, just one point which I didn't realize when I purchased mine was that if you need glasses to read with then you will need them as well to view monitor, have said this I think nightsite Wolf is an expensive but exellant bit of kit. P/s I also use it with great success on my .22 rimy and air rifle as well.
rodp 316
Funny enough there's a post on nv forum about these. Apparently the only difference between the £495 model and the £895 model is the illuminator. So you pay an extra £400 for a few more led's ?? may pay to buy the cheap one and another illuminator. goldfinger 135
Hello rodp, not sure if that's right or wrong, was wonder same thing myself but my unit the Wolf pushes out to 300 and a bit further in good conditions and to buy an extra eliminator that can push ir out well past 300 would cost a fair amount of money unless some person can correct me.I find that at about 300yrds it is adequate for rimfire shooting. The nightsite range does have pin sharp clarity but at end of day its all about set up (scope) and conditions that determine your visual experience,in my opinion every body has there own preference when it comes to night vision.P/s the Wolf has three LED's. hutchey 147
300 yards "adequate" for rimfire in the dark How far do you want to take a rimfire lol
goldfinger 135
Hello hutghey,it not the case for pushing rimy to 300 yrds we all know thats to far,the extra distance is useful for finding and identifying your targeted quarry. But you do need ir that goes to at least 150 yrds for hmr.
