Heres A Tough One For You Brain Boxes

MI stands for military intelligence and each number represents a different department ... It was founded around the First World War ... The height of the troubles were 60's and 70's so that blows his story out of the water really .......

no ken,we had the 1916 rising, remeber that? plus a lot of unrest leading up to those times,so possibly back in the water again maybe?

yeah, good point tiercel, the secret service wasnt that secret lol,........or maybe he knew about the prefix M but not the actual person that was responsible for the creation of the departments.Im going to ask him again about it and see if theres more to be heard.,its a good way to pass a few hours, and hes a good man to break out the whiskey or puteen too while chating but you have to be able to supp once you start, and possibly be willing to kip down in the spare room as there'd be no going home at all lol

The title "M" is believed to have been created by Ian Fleming from the first real-life head of Her Majesty's Secret Service, Mansfield Smith-Cumming, who used his initial "C" to indicate when he had signed a paper. Other influences on the character include Admiral John Godfrey, Fleming's superior in British Naval Intelligence during World War II. The "M" might also be an abbreviation for Minister, refering to the title of the MI6 head. In Ian Fleming's last novel, The Man with the Golden Gun, it was revealed that M's real name is Vice Admiral Sir Miles Messervy KCMG.
