Alan... 172
Went to go laning the other night when I got there I pulled the gearstick up to put it into 4WD but the 'full time' light never came up on the dash and didn't engage the front wheels, always worked before this, so put it back into 2WD and as I drove off there was a whining from the back of the motor, any ideas? Hoping it's a common problem with an easy fix, not the transfer box. 1997 4L. Alan.
irishnut 297
Not sure what sensors are on the front of the jeep, but quite possible that it went into 4x4 as it should, and the sensor didn't pick up
Alan... 172
Drove on some slippery mud at the side of a couple of lanes, definitely only in 2WD, shows 'part time' on the dash lights when in that gear but when it comes to it, doesn't engage Alan. toby63 1,236
could be a rod or something that connects to the front box . some 4x4 you have to reverse once you select 2wd to disangage or you can wind the box up and get that whining noise

Alan... 172
here you go bud link Cheers for link, although looking through that thread I found "all Jeeps after the early 90s have a one-piece axle shaft (with the 95 YJ being the last one)" So that shouldn't be the problem with minE I assume?
