jamesS410 106
Hi I'm in the process of applying for my FAC (I've held my SGC for 20 years so already have a suitable gun cabinet etc) I understand that the ammo safe has to be separate to the gun cabinet but my question is does this simply mean that I can't just keep the ammo in the same cabinet? I'm currently thinking of bolting a safe above the gun cabinet, would this be acceptable or does it have to be in a different room or part of a room? Many thanks in advance Quote Link to post
Tremo 138
The ammunition is required to be stored in a separate, secure location to the firearm(s). Some safes have an integral section for the ammunition that can be locked, so no, there are no rules to the distance that ammunition has to be kept away from the firearm(s). Put simply, this stipulation makes it necessary for the said 'undesirable' breaking in to you premises to have to jimmy two safes before he/she would have access to a loaded weapon. I have a safe for each. Quote Link to post

nasher1 258
I have a separate ammo safe and keep by bolts and certs in the lockable box inside my gunsafe, so if the worst happens they have three things to crack open before a shot is fireable, your feo will be pleased you have a separate safe for ammo just make sure its bolted to a wall. jamesS410 106
Thanks for that chaps, I thought that was likely to be the case but wanted to be clear before I bolted it in only for the feo to tell me to shift it. Thanks again, much appreciated Quote Link to post

andyf 144
Yep: I've got a Lock Top inside the main cabinet, only problem 'may' be that it is a bit small for centrefire ammo if you have more than one calibre. Quote Link to post
BarneyC 2
I have an integral ammo safe but my FEO (and RFD) both recommended a cheap small safe from B&Q! Quote Link to post
