MikeTheDog 153
For the first time in twenty years I've lost a ferret.. .... I was working a large open warren with the longnets using four jill’s, plenty of rabbits bolted and all in good enough fettle for the butcher tomorrow. When the bolting stopped I picked up the ferrets as they appeared and waited for a polecat coloured jill to show. After about twenty minutes she popped her head up and immediately disappeared below again, and that was fecking that! ... I searched with the locator and rune another ferret through time and time again but the missing jill still did not show.. Hung around for a couple of hours scanning with the knokka box to no avail and borrowed a cage trap from the keeper and left that suitably baited while I went home for my own cage trap. Fingers crossed she just might reappear and take the bait in one of two traps left for her. A sad loss, particularly as she is a very sound and experienced ferret but sadder still to imagine the fate that possibly awaits her trapped deep in the sandy soil labyrinths of the South Downs unable to climb out of her dark tomb… . Guest The Big Fish
Perhaps the collar cap worked loose Mike, she may have been there all the time! Or she has fallen into a deeper tube and couldnt get back out. Whatever the reason, heres hoping that the morning will turn up a well caged trapped ferret... Quote Link to post

MikeTheDog 153
I'll be up with the sparrows tomorrow, if she isn't in the trap I'll run my hob through with a 15' collar. I've never had a collar come loose, but then I've never lost a ferret.. ..More like a deep drop somewhere or maybe a stop end well out from the main bury. Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
maybe a stop end well out from the main bury. That's what I'd be thinking, Mike Good little worker? She's probably just followed some crafty bunny into a back way and gone out of range while she beavers away at his arse end. I know it'll be a long night for ye, mate. But what's the betting ye come back tomorrow all Big Grins? I truly hope so anyway. Quote Link to post
