Zander - Release Or Remove ?

Recommended Posts

I'm having a bash at pike fishing for the first time, before the weather warms up. I've got the gear and an experienced mate to help me with handling, but we keep having the same heated discussion.

He says Zander should be returned alive, like other coarse fish, and I say that they should be removed, as non-native/invasive species (in the same way that its illegal to release trapped grey squirrels or mink).

I've tried to research, but have only found conflicting answers,so who is right ?

Cheers in advance

Difficult one :hmm: One mans pleasure is another mans poison.

If the water is over run with them, it would probably benefit lowering the numbers, especially if you can use them for food for the dogs or ferrets, but probably not good form if the water is know as a local zander hotspot

That was possibly aimed at me BB. He has a tendency to go on like he`s john wilson  I still put his 2nd place down to the fact he was fishing next to a decent match angler and just copied him :whistling: .

No mate it was aimed fairly and squarely at Blackbriar. :D

Now you know I'm not one to mention that I came second in the comp, but it definitely wasn't because i was copying Arch. He had a pole and 2oz line and I had a rod with 5lb line. So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

John Wilson. lol. "Oops!"

Thought all this pish died in the eighties  Get em put back unless you want a small one for the pot...there was borderline hysteria when they first appeared "They'll eat every fish in sight, waters denuded of fish stock "etc etc theyre here to stay, enjoy them and release them, good luck with the piking
