Is it just me or my area but does there seem to be an awefull lot of moles active this year? I wonder if the mild winter has helped them.

They breed four times a year over here and traditionally the January and August hatches were decimated by the severe cold in winter and oppressively hot summers. Over the last few years however there hasn't been much of either extremes and so they are thriving. People who have been here twenty years or more and never had a mole problem are being over run by them. And there are virtually no mole trappers. My nearest competition is over two hours drive away.

 

If anyone is thinking of retiring abroad there is plenty of mole trapping opportunities as long as you register with the authorities. Head for areas where Brits have their holiday homes; Loire, Loire Atlantique, Maine, Brittany, Normandy or further south such as Tarn or Gironde.

Well, thats surprised me a bit ! the mole having up to 4 litters a year, over there ? lol Yes mate, you are in a good place for molecatching, its not the first time ive thought that, about France ? I had a feeling, a molecatcher could do well,and youve just confirmed it,.....

Plenty in the north west as well ,I am out all the time on them,What with the huge Crow / Rook numbers its going to be a very busy year,

I'm only a part time trapper, more for fun and only on the land round my workshop. I was going out today but the wind and sleet put paid to that !

This is just a small section of the three feilds near me.

Any idea how many moles it would take to create the workings in this small area?
