Guest Ditch_Shitter
Bit of a perrennial one this, Russ. Like, I'm sure Someone can dash off and trawl Google and bring back a string of quotes saying what ever they personally feel should be said? But Google isn't Actually the 'Word of God'. I have two views on all this. 1. When I was around top flight Professional Dog Trainers, I noticed how they'd put a Whole Raw egg into the feed of a Dog who was due to race that night. Other than that? Whilst there always seemed to be a tray of eggs around the place, I was certainly never sent to crack dozens of the damn things into the big, tin bath we mixed the grub in. Then, using my own favourite model of looking at Nature: Maybe I just mised it? But I'm honestly yet to remember hearing a Gamekeeper complaining that a fox or Dog has broken into his Laying pens and scoffed all the eggs, or even raided many wild nests and scoffed those. Rats do. Corvids do. Hedgehogs do. Etc. But I genuinely can't recall ever hearing of a Dog or fox doing it Then, look at the window of oppertunity. Wild birds only Have eggs for about 1/4 of the year. See where I'm coming from? Ok, largely from my damn arm chair, admittedly! But that's just how it adds up to me. Don't seem right or natural that a Dogs system should be force flooded by eggs. They like 'em, sure! But then, you try keeping one Away from a bowl of Anti Freeze! That's how I see it anyway. And I don't give mine eggs now. It just don't sit right with me. (Sit? Eggs? Geddit? ..... Yeah. Alright. I'll fetch me f*ckin coat )
Guest Ditch_Shitter
I " Go on ", mate, because I'm Not so f*cking arrogant as to assume Any proclamation from My key board should be simply accepted as The Word of God. I Try to give a little explanation of my reasoning. Maybe we differ somewhere in there though, eh?

cúagusgiorraí 57
I put an egg in the mix for each dog, every night and mince it up. The mincer pulverises the shell. I havent noticed any problems, just improvements in the health of the dogs.
cdnhastings 23
I've fed the contents of an agg once a week for quite some time now. Last week though I fed the entire egg and next day the dog had a bloody stool, I'm thinking the shell might have scratched her innards? Ive went back to egg contents only since then and no more complaints.
squirreltail 15
Yolks are fine but dogs insides cant digest albumen [egg white] .Only occasionally feed them ,gives a good sheen to the coat. And a pick me up.
BlueCoyote 0
Yolks are fine but dogs insides cant digest albumen [egg white] .Only occasionally feed them ,gives a good sheen to the coat. And a pick me up. thats the part that always confused me... couldnt remember if it was the white or the yolk... back when i had no kids or a husband i used to actually COOK the eggs for the dogs.. going on the advice of a bloodhound breeder(but cant remember his logic on why cooked is better).. i liked the results though.. well, most of the results were good.. the eggs gave the dogs beautiful shiny coats... but the dogs themselves had HORRIBLE gas. its pretty bad when a dog leaves the room because of his own fart.... this past summer though i've been giving the bullies one egg at every feeding.. shell and all. they seem to like cracking it open. one of them just holds it in his mouth.. crunch.. then swallow.. the other two prefer break it open, lick the contents up, then nibble at the shells.... its up to them. i dont bother cracking it open for them.. Then.. the chickens all stopped laying.. or perhaps found better hiding places for their eggs?? havent seen a single egg since the start of October!! thats the trouble with yard birds.... i never noticed bloody stool though!! the shell has a ton of calcium, supposed to be good for them. and the way a dogs digestive system is designed... something as insignificant as a piece of egg shell shouldnt hurt them that badly.. bolio 51
Albumen is just about the most biologically available source of protein found in nature, having all of the essential amino acids in near perfect proportion. The old advice not to eat RAW egg white was based on the fact that cooking it destroys the enzyme avidin. Avidin inhibits the absorbtion of biotin, one of the b vitamins and it used to be thought that eating raw egg whites could lead to a shortage of biotin. As dogs are carnivores, the high meat diet would surely mean they would have a surfiet of b vitamins, especially if they're on a whole carcass diet with the liver etc intact. The odd raw egg will do them nothing but good, like the odd tin of pilchards, as part of a ballanced diet.
Guest Chancer
I was told an egg helps firm / bind a dogs stool if they have the skits?? scrambled egg can do this, good idea to try a bit of this if they're off their food.i feed eggs occasionaly.....simply crack open an egg into a cup of boiling water for a minute and then add to food.
