Guest vin
I often come across the odd Rat or 2 when ferreting warrens near Bird feeders etc etc... no problems for a decent Fert,Except when its a Doe with kits to defend then things can get a little bit nasty...Still no problems for a good Fert. I have some mates from Barnsley,Yorkshire who do a lot of ratting with the ferrets, If they have a ferret that has got past a couple of seasons on the rats without spewing/jacking/packing or whatever you wanna call it...its a dam good ferret..They breed from worker to worker and still have wastage from the litters they breed..They usually start the season with a couple of litters of kits and end with 3 or 4 good uns.. If all breeders did the same I'm sure there would be a lot less Shite in the present gene pool. I was stuck for a decent Gill myself last season and they borrowed me one of there's to finish off the season with..It was 5 years old and not big by any means and very lean, little Black eyed ,white Gill.. I inquired if it was any good and the lad laughed at me and said "Its in its 5th season and had 2 litters of kits," It was one of the best gills I've ever seen work..It could turn a bunny around out of stops ends and kill it if it refused with the consummate ease of a strong hob...It truly was a Superstar Gill.. I was gutted when I gave it him back at end of season...lol. Quote Link to post
owen12345 43
Hi vin I am looking for a decent Gill I had 2 last year the man I had them off just feed them from a kit. I could not pick them up I had to get rid but will get a young gill this year and perhaps breed them if she a good worker. Quote Link to post
marky r 25
If they get bit mate make sure you clean erm well and any sign of infection take erm to vet it don't cost much I lost a good Jill to infection from rat bites it went downhill fast best one I owned not all jack on rats. Some become demons on them and then even better on rabbits . Just be quiet near the holes so the ferrets have an easier time pushing them about 1 Quote Link to post
