squab 2,875
remember someone starting a thread asking for peoples perfect combination, for me i said a decent bull x and a good busher, lets not dwell on my choice of a bull x lol, anyway over the last few months its become very obvious that one busher just isn't enough, perfect for a lot of arable land with typical dividing hedgerows as that's all you need but in large areas of cover the dog certainly got his work cut out trying to put enough pressure on rabbits to get them bolting, iv been lucky in certain places getting bolters for the lurcher but i often feel the bushers doing a lot of work for very little reward, not that i particularly want him catching in cover im guessing being on the arse end of stuff is reward enough but all to often im seeing rabbits on the edge of cover then going back in. typical example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kozZHZFnweA certainly looking at expanding in the future,i know few you lads that got little packs on the go and its become obvious to me the reasons why,im already looking at ways of dividing my existing kennels to cater for a new addition to bring on,hopefully put bit more infront of the lurcher in the future 2 Quote Link to post
young man 225
To work with the dogs you have I would suggest trying smaller bits of cover for rabbits. Until you get the chance to expand your pack. Quote Link to post
squab 2,875
I do mainly mate with some success more to do with justifying getting another for the larger areas available to me just saying that a single busher is often just not enough no matter how good it is cheers 1 Quote Link to post
leethedog 3,071
I'd agree with you rob I'd say 2 is minimum I always have 2 in the bush some times 4 or 5 Quote Link to post
matt1979 766
Got the same problem when I am out on my own, as I am stuck with a couple of pet dogs and 1 worker and can't really add more at the minute. I get out regular with my old mans dogs and add the brothers borders to the team. Much more success with 3 terriers even in the smaller sections of cover atb. Quote Link to post
squab 2,875
you cant see on first video but rabbits are running up down edge of cover, on these large areas i usually keep lurcher on slip i don't want him getting drawn in to start entering cover and completely defeating the object, smaller areas he runs round cover and keeps tabs on the busher which is exactly what im wanting and can get results for a young lurcher, well sometimes anyway lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bOl-VSiNMI Quote Link to post
