Tyla 3,179
Should you or shouldn't you? I have a 7 year old jrt x whippet who has proved himself to me time and again. Ideally I would like to clone him but failing that I'd like to breed him to a bitch of the same type and calibre aiming to get a very similar type of dog. Is this a good idea or am I likely to end up with throw backs? Quote Link to post
DogFox123 1,379
If the dog is the business then breed him, people are too hung up on pedigrees these days. 3 Quote Link to post

the big chief 3,099
dogfox has said it if its a good dog why not breed from it isn't that the aim to get a simler or better dog as a result of the matting Quote Link to post
pigeonphill 69
is he a first cross, if so is it not worth just buying the same way bred again or is there a few crosses in the mix , if so your breeding whirrier to whirrier / lurcher nothing wrong breeding but you are left finding the right homes for the rest of the pups Quote Link to post
Tyla 3,179
He is a first cross, jrt x non ped whippet I believe, bred by dogger from this site. The biggest hurdle maybe finding the right bitch owned by someone who wants a whirrier stud. I have never bred or wanted to but the older he gets the more I realize how handy he is. Tyla 3,179
Phil, I've not seen any other whippet russells work but those I have seen at shows etc are not the same type. His ability is what makes him worth breeding from and I couldn't guarantee that from another dog bred the same way 2 Quote Link to post
Wales1234 5,562
If you can find a bitch bud I would breed him he's a handy soild type !! Quote Link to post
Tyla 3,179
There's two things stopping me, firstly knowing someone with the right bitch and secondly the timing. I'm not ready for a pup yet but will be in a year or two. It's just something that I've been thinking about more and more recently Quote Link to post
roybo 2,873
i personally wouldn't breed a litter of similar dogs ,no disrespect meant,as I know how handy they can be as I've had similar. But they are quite a niche type dog and unless you have the stomach to cull you may be left with a few . I personally buy in jmho 1 Quote Link to post

Is this a good idea or am I likely to end up with throw backs? Id guess finding a bitch that is up to his standard is going to be the hard part, the dog is very good by all accounts. Breeding is a gambol, he might not throw himself, he might, only one way to find out. Keep us posted though mate 1 Quote Link to post
Tyla 3,179
If only it was possible to clone him Quote Link to post
