Gaz_1989 9,539
I agree with the lads who say speed aint everything, ive always liked a fast type, and still do. This bitch is like lightning, but thats about her only quality. Lol. Im picking a pup up next week and for the first time (for me) it isnt gonna be a speed machine. But between them im sure i will have some fun. 2 Quote Link to post

op herrick 31
lurcher to lurcher with a lot of deerhound from sire.small bitch could turn hares uphill within 50 yards of the chase, second chase? put it back in the van no stamina.my pal now has her as a pet after a terrible injury with a treble wide hare who made her jump a double sheep fence (topped with barbed wire) . matt1979 766
Surprising how some dogs look very fast (smaller types) with all the movement ad fast action but when worked alongside something bigger you soon realise that real pace come from stride length just my experience. Been out with bed x whips and bed x grey and although the whippet x look faster you soon realise who catches the bunnies more ad I am talking about short runs as well atb good topic 3 Quote Link to post
stevemac 441
Deerhound x greyhound I owned was quick as any I' ve seen and the desire to always be the one to make the catch. Quote Link to post
jigsaw 11,866
I own a 1st x sal/g.hound thats a fast dog,hes been relatively successful in his years, his initial burst of speed is impressive and has shown some lung capacity at times when necessary..I like a dog tucked up fast and puting pressure on the quarry from the outset....Over here you need a fast type dog as some of the land is small enough,Im currently hoping to get another fast type dog this summer as he is almost 7 yrs old now,so anyone with a 1st x type from proven parents drop me a line, mind with all the pet passport and jabs and then the transportation back Im not sure it will be viable,..if I could find one on this side of the pond it would suit me a whole lot better. 2 Quote Link to post
FUJI 17,327
Fastest dog has to be anything with plenty of Greyhound or Whippet blood in them..also they are the fastest to run out of stamina and generally the fastest to either kill themselves or badly injure themselves lol.. 5 Quote Link to post
saluki174 266
This is my old bitch Chanel just over 26" to the shoulder , she's lurcher/saluki crosses in her, fastest dog I've ever seen run. Quote Link to post
trenchfoot 4,243
unless breeding a 1st x, I don't see the benefit for just adding raw pace to a lurcher. better breeding to a similar type, but of a faster nature. If that makes any sense! 1 Quote Link to post

jade 1 7
back in the 80s i had a 3/4 greyhound 1/4 saluki 22 1/2 inch tts this was the fastest bitch i have ever seen back then and now.she could catch hares well on small to bigish fields the best she did in a morning was 4. i was asked many times to take to the fens but i allways said no this bitch would of died on that land.this bitch had the heat of a lion and wouldent jack . just how i licked um. GaryC 9
Right I'm having you... No Greyhound x Whippets allowed. That's plain cheating.... Not strictly speaking a lurcher is it? IIRC a lurcher is a Greyhound x working dog, a Longdog is a sight hound x sighthound. Or am I wrong? Quote Link to post
Stud dog 632
Three quarter greyhound quarter beddy fast an take most quarry Quote Link to post
