Am I The Only One ??

Recommended Posts

Seriously am I the only person that thinks that most catty designs are shit , and the bands slapping you and ammo smashing hands /knuckles is unbrraunbearable.

I fired 5 stones yesterday and the 5th took a nice slice out of the back of my hand between thumb and finger.

For all the "design" that goes into them I would have thought someone, somewhere would have got round this !!

I'm seriously thinking of designing and make a hunting powered SAFE catty for my self then maybe to sell .

The only down side to that is in not very good with a catty and don't understand the science of making them (if there is any?)

I believe shooting a through the fork set up rather than an over the top setup elliminates some hand slap and I've noticed on my over the top setup if my bands are to heavy for the ammo I'm using then I'll get hand slap. I think if you suit your bands to a consistant weight ammo you'll find hand slap will dissapear. I maybe wrong though I'm still learning lol

Like what's been said, don't use stones as ammo, they weigh different weights and are just to inconsistent, band slap is due to excess power in the bands, either ammo is too light or bands too long. I'd love to see you design and make a nice catty Matt, knowing how nice your knives are mate! Id definately buy one from you :-)

Thanks fellas , so there is some science in this then !

I have had the thought about stones for ammo being an issue . Just no consistency because of the irregular shape and weight .

Ok so what do you use to work a band/ammo coefficient?

I initially got repeated thumb, knuckle etc slap until I switched to a Scout and started shooting through the forks. I also moved from not being able to hit a tree let alone a can on a branch but can now hit it more than 50% of the time. The other odd tip ( which I discovered by accident when I sneezed or coughed or something similar at the point of release) is to drop the catapult! I know that sounds daft...and only works with a strap around your wrist...but for some reason it improved my accuracy. Maybe it's just because it gave me one less thing to concentrate on?

I get on fine with the hunter design, don't know who invented it but it works for me, I can't get on with tube cattys at all, flat gold bands work best for me, nice and fast!

If your getting hand slap all the time try pointing the forks at an angle towards the target if your shooting OTF , I don't shoot TTF but some people find it better for some reason... Down to Preference i suppose
