Rat style....

Been doing quite a bit of this myself this winter, good to do now and again, even if it only saves a few sachets of bait going down. Ps, obviously these photos were in the autumn, not winter catches.

hardly scratch a pig that thing lol

Only problem with using this type of fencing stake is when you catch the big beggars like this one! If the Springer had been down more than one night the plastic would have taken on some memory and not been able to lift this one.

So what is the ultimate "whip" for the trap?

JD,/ Moletrapper what size loop do you set, and how high off the ground.

I fancy having a try at this method round the chicken run.

I was trying to make out what you were using as your snare JD it looked like twine?

I have some old springs off a kids trampoline ,I'm going to put a rod into each end to make the bender.

Tigertail 0.7 mm stainless wire. Some nails and some silicone rubber. Thats what i use.....

I think that's what Glen made some squirrel snares out of he sent me down to try, quite probably better than the standard brass o use.

Yes, it pisses all over brass, and they are much more durable to teeth....

I believe Glen is working on something, but that's of no use to you right now.

To be honest, I don't think you'll learn much more by reading about it than actually knocking some up and just giving it a go.

It will help you greatly if you can find a straight run where they are darting between places, they're motoring when they do this so will hit it nicely, rather than it just ambling.

The other main thing to take into consideration is that your trigger that holds the whip down must be able to release which ever direction the rats are traveling from. Also the more sensitive you can make this the better but obviously not so much as to release by the breeze.

Generally I also use a tiny tiller peg same as on a rabbit snare but the base of the wire is merely resting in a small groove rather than being seated in a split.
