Lamping, I Love It..

Recommended Posts

:hmm:Well,..I used to lamp rabbits every night,..even walked out on poor nights..

Years and years of it,..two weeks on,.following the moon phases, then,.two weeks off,.doing other things..

Nowadays,..I just cannot be arsed...

Maybe if a guy comes calling and the night is black, with a chance of some plentiful sport on the Downs,..well perhaps.

Other than that,..naaa,...I am all lamped out....

Enjoy your night walking lads,...I certainly did...

As the title says, lamping is definitely my favourite sport, i love it.

Great to watch a dog running that beam and how each chase is different,

i love it when you have a squatter out a fair way in the field and the dog runs wide

of the beam only to reappear with a lightning strike and snatches the rabbit from its seat

or if you have a rabbit that is on the move and dog puts down that real quick burst of

speed up the hedge and heads the rabbit off and connects just right before he

reaches the safety of cover.

I know that dogs dont catch every rabbit they run, and its nice to watch the ones that

make it home, hats off to em. The rabbit truly is a hardy little creature that have have supplied

me with coming up to 39 years of sport with dogs, ferrets, nets, longnets and guns.

Ps dont know what id do if i didnt hunt...

I admire your commitment mucker,i got into lamping and then spent a good 7 years with illumination fever,i now lamp occasionally for a little relaxation and an idea of more productive daytime mooches, get yourself a busher and retire the lamp, good post.

Its been a bit of a washout this season as well

fields saturated really quick with the last lot of rain.

I hope we get a relatively dry 2015 lamping season

with some dry black windy nights.

i know you boys up north have had quite a bit of snow

how has the weather this year affected your season,

good or bad season, weather wise.

cheers SWG Dave.......

I do a hell of alot of lamping up until christmas, then there's pretty much nothing left really, but still do a night a week at least, after that. I don't get any big bags as that is impossible around here, but I'm more than happy with three in the bag as long as the lurcher performs well. I've spent the last five years or so going mad with lamping photographs, so that's always given me an excuse to go out even when i know there's not much about. JD

Lampings was the only way forward for me this season, had a few days ferreting but usually been for a walk late on, few hours few runs, that bitch has worked hard for what we have took these last few month, ive put a bit a work in and next seasons already looking a bit different maybe some more daytime forays? Still love being out with just me, the lamp and dog in the pitch black night hunting while everyone else is snoozing ;)

I get out regular and do love it.not just the chase. Its seeing things you won't see watching EastEnders. Barn owls.badger's. Fox .etc.I love the loneliness man n dog walking out its very calming.come n go with out being noticed. Wind in my face dog sniffing the air.,....,. I'm wondering about giving up and letting the game run free.
