Rumour has it the local pro got over 600 on a riddled farm not too far away,That's from the farming community not the trapping community. Brilliant going that and they say he was popping traps back in and they were firing again as he checked others.

Will try to take some pics of his spot regards the damage done once he's finished and moved on.

last week i put 43 traps in a field over 2 and a bit hours (4 acre) and re-traced my tracks on the way out and pulled 13 moles from them a couple still gasping their last. and the next day pulled 17 more from the field, 6 of them from traps that had caught the night before and ended up after 3 day with 41 moles with 2 traps catching 5 moles....down deep in runs along a fence.

i think nothing thease days of takeing 1-200 even more off some farms on the first visit i just wish i was further down south and could charge more per mole :laugh:

I'm much more of a Mickey-Mouse operation. 60 traps max in a day on a a farm is enough for me.

It is amazing how some traps catch time and time again though isn't it? I did a job recently in a 2 acre garden and took 7 moles from 10 traps out in 2 visits, one trap catching a single and a double. I left 4 traps in and checked them a few days later and there were 5 moles trapped including 2 in the trap that had previously caught a double. A few days later, another 4 with the same trap throwing up another double. There were 3 last time I checked with that same trap accounting for another 1.

On another job I had one trap catching three doubles on consecutive days.

I just wish I knew why :hmm:

I did a job once on a stud farm.... lots of smallish fields, going up hill. I took half a bucket of traps with me up the hill, and set 8 of the 9 in the bucket in what I thought were good looking runs.

Anyway, when I got to the top of the hill I had one trap left in the bucket and decided to set it on a rubbish looking run coming from the hedge rather than carry it back down to the van.

In three days, that one trap accounted for 8 moles

It's funny how it goes sometimes isn't it?

Did one on a farm this time last year. It was wet; very wet, and I opened up a run to find it full of water. After going to the trouble of opening up the run I thought I may as well stick a trap in (in truth it was pissing down and I just wanted to finish setting the bucket of traps I had and get back to the van). Anyway, that run remained full of water for the week that trap was in there, and it accounted for a double catch every time I checked it (three times).

As I say, funny how things pan out sometimes ;)

Regards what Perthshire Keeper put earlier about walking back along the line of set traps and picking up trapped moles. I've done similar myself. Walked back to the start and re-traced my steps and I'll often find recently dead moles. In another job I set a Talpex, walked a few yards away, probed, found a tunnel, dug into it and saw the first trap go off. So my theory is that the setting process disturbs some moles and can cause them to panic and run into the traps. Does anyone else share this or have you got other ideas?

Sounds a plausible enough thought to me.

If your getting a lower rate per mole, than in some other areas,at least its some consolation, you can take a large number of moles ? whats the going rate, where you are, then ?

In my opinion, its actually more to do with the 'run times', of moles,......
