You don't train a dog for earthwork you breed for it.

Guarranteed to find a fox or two .Last chance .Weve some decent ratting coming up too if that tempts anyone but you must dig to your Plummer whilst here

We have done this dance a few times now F.D. and just because you throw open an invite doesn't mean you will get some one to bite, most the lads I know that work Plummers to ground either don't come on here or would not post or accept an invite from a stranger, you are only appealing at best to 5% of Plummer owners anyway, what makes you the judge as to who has proper dogs and who doesn't, why would anyone want your endorsement anyway ?? you attach far too much importance to yourself, anything you say or do does not affect the way we enjoy working our terriers all it does is put lads off from posting about the working of their dogs, we do not go on black dog threads or patts, etc, just to deride the likes of yourself, I've worked all the types of terriers you and the Irish lads keep and a lot are finished at an early age due to being poorly entered or overmatched, I don't understand the need to "macho" up or ridicule another mans choice, Britain has changed and Plummers are the future as Johnny 777 has stated simply because they are very adaptable, when digging badger was legal there was a place for larger/stronger terriers to be kept but with the law as it stands now a softer terrier is whats needed, I have always liked a bolting type terrier anyway as I hate just digging 1 hole all day but thats my personal preference, we all keep what suits ourselves and not somebody else, so lighten up and just get on with what you do and us Plummer lads will do what we do, it is not a competition as to whats the best terrier, just what suits your personal preference. WM
Good post but I don't agree with plummers being the future because there adaptable, that's nonsense. There's plenty other types that could be called adaptable. True worker to workers are the future of the working terrier regardless of type or breed!

I find these posts quite amusing. Its been about 13 or 14 years since I stopped earthwork with terriers.

I was at it for over 25 years and I find there is some amount of P$sh written about terriers. IMO.

Some of the most successful terriermen , ie catch around 100 foxes per season use bolting terriers and only dig as a last resort.

Their dogs rarely get badly marked up and they are capable of getting called out an earth.

These guys have been doing this for maybe half a century, but if they came on here they probably would get slagged off by all the keyboard warriors on here.

Not everyone works their terriers in the same way. Some have a dog that will stay all day until dug to....I've had dogs like this and enjoyed them.

Others prefer a terrier to work its fox and bolt it without fuss.........I've had dogs like this too and also enjoyed them.

It should be each to their own. As long as your successful at what you do and enjoy it, what does it matter.

For the record, about 30 years ago I met some lads from the north of England with a Plummer dog. These boys dug a lot of quarry with it and from what I remember rated it highly.

The bloodline of this dog will still be around somewhere I should imagine so I would imagine that some lads with Plummers will have decent earthdogs, but as I say I have been away from the terrier scene for quite a few years so maybe I'm wrong.

Why do the Plummerites think my offer is about ego .Working the dogs far outways any ego i have .Im nearly 50 myself not a teenager full of testoterone .My offer is genuine as anybody taking it up would see .ive seen every other type go and would be interested in style .Plenty of other lads on here have been to mine and can testify if they feel the need .As for Plummers being the future thats shite .The future is what you make it regardless of any unjust laws .The numbers game plays no part in my life as with all lads that like a dig .Its the digging that matters not how many foxes bolt from a yapper .

The offer was made to see if anyone would like a trip here not to silence anyone ,i wouldnt even post results .
