jok 3,269
How about working for me? Joking apart, with that talent he's going to the moon. Still looking at that knife. How do you bring that rust/corrosion to the fore? Just amazing. I don't know how he's going to make a living off them but if I can help I will.
GruffaloGriff 1,858
How would the wavey bit in the handle be done? I really fancy a go at one myself lol but I dowt I could get to that standard anytime soon! Well done again to your lad "Wavy bit in the handle" -file off the corner of he spine with a round file/ pointy file alternatively prior to fitting the scales, the void is filled with resin to stop it getting filled with crud.

The rust was just the surface of the old spring, left it on rather than grind it smooth. Forged the curve of the spring flat and and cut the shape/ ground the bevel and left the flats as were and cleaned them up with a wire cup brush in the grinder. The best thing about using scrap/recycled material is there is no cost if it goes wrong so anyone can have a go, just needs and interest, determination and patience. The lad has been persisting for 16yrs now and he is starting to get the hang of it.
GruffaloGriff 1,858
A bit of mothers leather handbag left so i made up this sheath for my lads knife. First time having a go at wet forming, quite pleased with the result. Couple of short bits of small bore copper gas pipe to make the eyes, clamped in the vice with a ball bearing in either side to splay them.

jok 3,269
Gruffalo. What I did was use the soldering iron to mark the leather. Just laid the nib flat for a second and repeated round the sheath. Gives it a nice finish. Like yours. I think my leather was a bit thicker so presented it's own problems. Love the work.
GruffaloGriff 1,858
My lad made up this mahogany oil stone box recently. Hinged at the one side & a piece of leather glued to the top for a honing strop. Pics are with the flash so not the best but give overall idea.
