snipers eye 0
hi folks,i have a cz 452 .22 with 16" barrel,i got it chopped to that a few months back, using a sak mod,i have tried eley, winchester, cci, lapua, subsonics, but still find it rather loud,i have known lads to say that with the same set up that all one can hear is the pin crushing the case, and the thump off the target(rabbit),well i hear alot more, does anyone else find that,?mod is couple months old, cleaned regular, ps,anyone switch from a sak to any other make,if so was there any differance?or is the noise im getting the best i can hope for?thanks all Quote Link to post
Tremo 138
I have a SAK on my .22 as well. Personally I don't think that you will find a better mod for the money. I would not say that it is silent by any stretch, but as long as I use subsonic ammo it sounds just like an airgun being fired. My .22 is 14". Did you have the problem before you had the chopped? Some folk recommend not cleaning the SAK as it aids the sound moderation. Quote Link to post

Tremo 138
No worries mate. Let me know how you get on. ATB Quote Link to post
andyf 144
Hi my brother in law lives near Fethard so I know the area around that way (I live in England). Small fields with high hedges hills and banks reflect the sound more than open flat ground, it may be that which is not helping? I have a SAK on my .22, it's as good as any other I've tried/heard, i.e. Parker Hale, Viame and even a Whisper, the SAK is cheap and effective not often that works out! Quote Link to post

Noise is reflected quite easily and can make it seem much louder than it actually is. One of my permissions has lots of small hills, dingles and areas of woodland. My .22-250 sounds like a canon when I use it there. Stick with the SAK mate and save your hard-earned. Quote Link to post
Coypu Hunter 486
I've compared my SAK with a couple of other (French) brands, and it's the quietest on my 22" barrel. Still makes a bit of a thwack, but not much. On my .22LR pistol, the other two silencers make a crack on the first round, then are quiet after the gases have filled up the silencer chambers. The SAK however is silent from the first shot, which makes me think that it's a better design and more effective as a silencer. The only way I can think of to reduce the noise is to get a lower-velocity round. I use Lapua subs because they're deadly accurate out to 65 yards, my normal shooting range. Winchester, Remington and Aguila subs make the same noise. The only round that is completely silent -- and I mean COMPLETELY silent -- is Winchester Long Z, very-low-velocity 29-grain bullets. All you can hear is the firing pin. However, they're not very accurate through my rifle. Have you tried the new CCI "Silencer" rounds? I haven't seen them over here yet, but would be interested to know if they're any good. Quote Link to post
Tremo 138
I watched a guy on YouTube using the CCI "Quiet" and the CCI "Short". If you feel that you still want something that is quieter why not try these? I believe that the velocities are quite low though, maybe in the 700's. Quote Link to post

Wouldn't recommend .22 Shorts -- they won't feed well from a magazine. Something to do with them being too short. The Winchester Long Zs average 765 fps through my barrel. Ridiculously quiet, but they don't group well for me. CCI do a 40-grain Quiet-22 LRN and a Quiet-22 Segmented HP, both 710 fps, 45 fpe, plus the Suppressor 970 fps 45-grain round. Might be worth a try if you can find them. Quote Link to post

Deker 3,478
Few will ever need more than a SAK can provide on a .22lr using subs. Frankly, it doesn't matter what you spend on a mod for a .22lr and subs, the difference in sound reduction will be negligible over a SAK. 3 Quote Link to post
