bobcullen79 1,495
I know wish I new what wood they are They look like hawthorn or blackthorn, could even be sycamore.. Get your self a guide book, then go seek out the best materials. Identify them by the leaves on the ground close to it.. As a kid I would never take an egg unless I could identify the bird, and its sorta rubbed off regarding naturals. Plus theres no point putting hours into a fork if its gonna snap first go and have your eye out...

Truther 1,579
Have a look for some ash saplings, strong wood for cattys, and often a good "U" shapes not to hard to find.

bigoy19706 276
i would of said hawthorn or blackthorn and even rowan
Truther 1,579
i would of said hawthorn or blackthorn and even rowan Rowan and mountain ash are the same thing mate, when you cut rowan the exposed wood turns orangey brown, looks like that has, and its the only one of the 3 you mention that has the little lines one the bark that are at 90dg to the way the branch is growing. It makes a good catty or stick if you can find a good straight one, carves pretty good as well.
