Why cant your lurchers find their own?

Tbh mate my terrier will get where pointers won't he will work any cover and my pal keeps coursing digs so when we have a day out I work the terrier to put a few up for him for them long slips ? plus

If i needed to id shoot the useless lurcher and line the pointer with a Collie/Grey.

I find hares ,my dog killed one last week and was running them this morning even with the fog we found them.

Yes the dog is kept on the slip.would of liked to have read what some people's experiences were of using a flushing dog while walking land for hares.i know the pointers etc will find hares ,

the question was does anybody do it(on thl).the lads with smart answers sound like people who don't hunt hares and were scratching themselves and on thl when I was out walking fields at the crack of dawn

Hi Kevin, I understand where your coming from now. I hunt in a different way. I have a German pointer that I free-hunted alongside lurchers very successfully.

The more you hunt them with lurchers the less steady the point will become on fur. I broke all my dogs to feather so that I can still have steady gun-dogs to hunt birds with. The pointer will still find and stalk fur, and the other dogs know to head in her direction as soon as she starts to stalk or she will jump it herself. The pointer will join in the chase. I think most pointers would really want to join in the course, so your main issue would be retaining steadiness to hares.

Cheers mate.

that's good, because Id prefer terriers myself to pointers etc.so they do the job sure you wouldn't mind them chasing as long as the lurchers are on it
