new or rusty my fenns still catch no probs

I use mine on the rivers, so they get exposed to water alot! Think treating them keeps them working fast, + think it should prolong the life of the traps! JMO! Each to their own!

I don't consider waxing to be neccecary at all,...

The Americans / Canadians trap in a totally different environment to us and isn't as though we trap daily in sub zero conditions or have under water sets,...

Waxed traps, waxed dirt....leave them to it,.

Our biggest concern is the wet / damp and although not a requirement a layer of added protection that helps protect a trap against rust forming is all that's needed...

A lot don't see there is a huge difference in a trap that's weathered and one that's rusty and any one setting a trap should try to ensure the trap will perform as effectively as it possibly can by whatever means possible.
