perthshire keeper 1,239
As said, it is the general apathy of the people that is annoying, as BH said earlier, it is easy to pick faults, sitting in your arm chair in a centrally heated room, but every waking moment of the day should be spent searching/hunting for food, not sitting around weaving grass for no particular reason maybe a group of us from here should have a go next time, see if our skils could translate to 10,000 bc living i recon a decent group of us (minus the bullx brigade and the beddy/whipped fallow hunters) could make a good go at it...take a couple of female members for the upcomeing newspaper "scandle" and we would be ok! i honestly thing the biggest problem would be bloody flint knives! i would do better than that bunch of jobsworths and baggy breasted feminists

charlie caller 3,654
Agreed PK I am sure we could make a better attempt at catching deer/boar/rabbits than them for a start, they have done precisely sweet FA, they have not sussed out any runs/game trails properly, they have not even made any sodding bows, and one of them was a bloody archer, you would think a good strong bow, with a flint tipped arrow would have been a start, and as for the fishing, and what about bird traps, they could rotate duties and have someone on bird catching duty from dawn till dusk, the area is stuffed with game, from what I have seen, the actual drive to eat/survive is very poor in these people, but strangely none of them seem to have lost a great deal of weight, the lorry driver with the cough is still a chubby little git

charlie caller 3,654
Actually BH you are right mate they bloody were, what happened there then? Especially as that guy was an expert archer, if the local laws prohibit using a bow on deer/animals, then A. why give them a bow and arrows? B. why choose an area/country where it is not legal? I am reasonably confident that our forebears in 10,000 bc used bows for hunting, so without their use the experiment is not authentic, I am also reasonably confident I could get close enough to a deer, in those thick woods, by ambush, to slot a flint tipped arrow in its boiler room

charlie caller 3,654
Yes a shame really, I quite liked the guy to begin with and thought he, out of all of them, would have shone in the hunting dept, but spat his dummy good and proper last night I have just a slight inkling he may be back? But we will see.

Then I thought, well they're fairly well established where they are and to move 15 people would be a significant amount of work but certainly building a small 'lake camp', which could support 3-4 people as well as more efficiently supply the main camp with high calorie food, would have been my move. Let the best hunters of the group establish this camp and then gradually move the rest when it has proven sustainable and viable. I've only seen episodes 1-3, I'll have to catch up. charlie caller 3,654
My thoughts exactly BH, in fact I would have been building one from day one of finding the lake, apart from hunting, to get away from most of those lazy useless toss pots, and be on my own

Blackbriar 8,569
I still stand by my view that the purpose of the show is to show how 'soft' and lazy most Westerners have become. What's struck me most has been their lack of resourcefulness and ingenuity -their seeming inability to simply think things through first ! When you think about it, it's staggering how much knowledge has been lost in a relatively short space of time - watching a group of grown adults struggling to light a fire, a job that could probably have been given to a mesolithic child !

The young bloke, I forget his name will be next to go I think.
