jigsaw 11,863
well I was sitting watching the tv during the week and in an ad break I looked over at the son and the dog clung together as they usually do and the thought entered my head how both had grown up together, and still devoted to each other.I remember in 2006 I got a phone call to drop down to a mate that needed a dog removed from his property.I arrived and saw a fine example of a bulldog settled in asleep on the sofa,I asked where the dog was that needed attention and he pointed to what I thought was his ''house pet''.I enquired as to why he needed the dog removed and he said he just didnt want him.The story behind the dog was,his mate bred and owned the dog, produced from a game pit to a show staff.A litter bred on a whim, and ''SNOOPY'' was the result of the mating. His mate was living with a polish girl and they had a baby and all was rosy in the garden for a while, and then the cracks appeared in their relationship and in the end his woman left for her home country and the bloke returned to his mothers abode and the dog was collateral damage and had to be put to sleep,My mate then showed me how well the dog was trained and wait for it.....commands were understood in both polish and english, sit lie stay, roll over and fetch ,beg and speak on command, this dog was a bright spark.I felt very uncomfortable in doing what was requested and I reluctantly loaded the gun and got ready to do the dastardly deed, but it just wasnt right in my head, this dog had done everything right, and didnt deserve this so I said fuk it,im not going through with this and decided to take him back home as he was too sweet a dog to destroy.Home he came and I brought him straight in to the home and like an old hand,he jumped up on the sofa and curled up to sleep. He was 2.5 years old and I said to herself I'll find a home in the next few days for him. Some chance,as you can understand he never left us.Hes part of the furniture.Adored by all and admired by many on our walks.Hes been a real joy to have, not a cross bone in his body unless under attack and only then will he use just the right amount of aggression to quell the attacker, for as sure as nuts are nuts hes never once looked wrongly at another dog.heres a few photos of his time with us, a young boy and his dog meself and me mate . on the beach having a bit of craic. on one of his woodland walks, this I suppose is just a story of a dog that really has been a part of my family, very few have made that grade with all the dogs weve had. When the time comes, and he is gone I know my wife especially will be heart broken, she thinks the world of him and the rest of my family does too. in all these photos you can see every member of my family have tremendous time and affection for the dog. begging for his supper, lol anyway just a short story on the old git,its sad to see him get older as his age is now starting to show but hes still enjoying life. same dog same ''boy'' he does a hell of a lot of sleeping these days,so hope you found it an interesting tale,

jigsaw 11,863
thanks folk,i have to think im the lucky one for getting him,the minute he stepped inside the door he made himself right at home, never was strange with any of us from day one,we walk our local beaches and parks and to see the fukin idiots panic and run the other way and i have even had folk approach me and demand i tie him up,these breed of dogs are so demonised its sad.I have a neighbour that has a pure pit bitch looking for the dog to cover her but ive put him off, besides being a big oul softie,I cant see a reason for him to have another litter on the for sale section of the local paper, theres more than enough staffies/bulls in the dog rescue centres without me adding to it.the wife on the other hand is pleading with me to let it happen so she can have''SON OF SNOOPY'' marching about the place to take his spot when the old dog pops his clogs.Im not up for that though,be hard to get one as handy as this old lad. Matt 160
Funny you should mention it today..... When I got home after 7 months of slaughtering on FMD my old lurcher had to be PTS. At the time, I was doing a lot of driven shooting, and wanted a lab to help with the picking up, but not a 'robot' type, so I decided to get myself a chocolate lab. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I found a litter, put a deposit down on a pup, and after a few days took the wife and her friend to see them. While we were there, a little black pup wouldn't leave the wife alone, so after me offering to take that one instead, we decided to take them both (big mistake as it happens). Anyway, they grew up to be fine strong labs, both good workers, but in different ways. The chocolate lab was a proper old fashioned keepers dog (wilful, disobedient, but sometimes outstanding), whilst the black dog was more of what you would expect of a lab; loved to pick up, and lived to work... Anyway, the old boy has had it, and the vet is booked for Friday morning.... quite sad in a way, but also interesting to think back at the times he's been with us. I'll be off to pick him up after the deed to return him to his final resting place, which is where he started out in life and enjoyed himself the most They are with us but a short time, but by god, don't they ever give more than they get?
