FAc application

Recommended Posts

Well I've just put my FAC application in for a .22-250 & phoned to ask Thames Valley Police firearms department what their current wait time is.

Shocked to hear it could be 2 months before the forms get passed to the visiting officer & then a total of 5 months before a final decision is passed.

Oh well I will just have to be prepared to hassle them every month or so I suppose.

Good news is if I do get my certificate ok a friends brother-in-law who is a beat keeper on a nearby estate is moving on to a new job controlling the deer on another Oxfordshire estate & they are buying him all new rifles & ammo so he's selling up his current rifles & has offered me free all his hand loaded Teflon coated .22-250 ammo, 700 rounds. :D:clapper:

Wish us luck folks.

Yep, I wish you luck as well mate.

DO NOT PUT HIS RELOADS IN YOUR RIFLE, if you buy his rifle as well then maybe thats ok (if you trust someone elses reloads)

His reloads are ok in his rifle, they will not be ok in a different one. There are so many diffences between rifles, even the same make & calibre.

DONT DO IT

PS. if I read the post wrong and you are buying the rifle that the reloads were made for, so be it, I would never trust any one elses reloads, who do you go to if you loose your face or fingers or worse??

  • 3 months later...

Well the FAC finally arrived this morning :clapper::clapper::icon_eek::icon_eek::D:D

Only took 4 months, pretty good for Thames Valley.:thumbdown:

So its time to spend some money

Have been looking at .22-250 Tikka's & an RWS Titan so it's decision time.

I've got a Kahles 3.5-10x50 scope on its way from the USA.

Mr_Logic "MAY" have a Sako 75, 22-250 for sale, under a year old, excellent condition, genuine reason for sale....and can I have commission please? :whistling::thumbs:

PS... not bad for Kidlington either, just 4 months, I know several who have waited longer!

Are you buying your your friends brother in laws rifle ChrisR? That you're getting his handloads along with his rifle that he loaded them for?

I can't reload here in Ireland but I'd be hesitant to use reloaded cartridges which were developed for another rifle in my rifle. That's just my personal opinion, but, I'd reccomend that if the rifle you're buying is not the rifle that those reloads were developed for you post a question on the safety of using those cartridges through a different rifle up on the Reloading section of this forum to get better advice than I can give to you from experienced reloaders.

It's entirely possible I'm overreacting through my own lack of knowledge on reloading, but it's better to be safe than sorry :)

Good luck with your application mate, shame you have to wait so long and to be honest I can't see any justification for the time delay, 7 months is not on.

Gingernutz & Ratman2...nice little club...do you guys actually know anything about Mr Crossman, I've got an old pump up pistol, used to be the business but the seals have gone and I need replacements. Can't remember the model, been put away for a few years because it's unusable. I'll dig it out, in the meantime if you could let this little girlie into your club we could talk there!

No I've decided not to buy that rifle for two reasons. One I was told it was a Sako & it turned out to be a 7 year old RWS, no problem with RWS though & it was in good nick but secondly it's got a floor plate magazine & I prefer drop out mags.

As for the reloads they weren't, they turned out to be newly custom loaded by a local firearms dealer who loads rounds for a few of the keepers round here. I have been offered them & will be talking to the FID about them to see what he says.

Looking at getting a new Tikka or RWS Titan at the moment also saw a nice laminate thumbhole stocked Howa on the weekend.

Anyone got an opinion on these? (bugger, just saw Howa's are floorplate mags as well)
