McKinleyBhoy1 4
Hi Guys, Had this account for a while but only just started getting really interested in dogs within the last 6 months. Just got a new pup on Friday. 5 weeks old today. Sire is saluki x collie grey - Dam is Whippet x Grey. Nice black dog with white sox and 3/4 of a white head with a black patch over its eye. Does anyone have any tips that i can use to bring this on. Quote Link to post
sandymere 8,263
4 weeks is young to take any reason you picked it up so early? Quote Link to post
McKinleyBhoy1 4
I was thinking the same, The dogs stopped feeding off the mum at 3 weeks and the guy I got the dog from texted advising that most of the pups were leaving the next weekend so I basically had to take it. The dogs settled in well though, hot water bottle wrapped in a blanket and a clock above the cage seems to be working. As soon as it gets light though it howls like mad... Trying to use the puppy pads but the pup isn’t going near it so definitely think the carpet is going to need cleaned. Quote Link to post
mattyg 1,862
Firstly tell the bloke you had it from that he is a tit if he is indeed trying to shift the pups at that age.... Good luck with your pup! Matt 5 Quote Link to post
sandymere 8,263
I shouldn't have another pup off the fella, another week with the litter would have done a lot for socialisation and settling on the weaning diet. Hopefully you will continue with whatever it was weaned on, if it was a decent puppy food then all well and good, if not start adding one in over the next few days once settled add in some table scraps, meat and veg, not onions or garlic. Then if doing well get some decent mince cooked or raw. Go for small feeds at least 4 a day well-spaced throughout the day. It will still be able to digest milk so moistening the feed with milk is an idea. Once it’s eating a varied diet well try some raw chicken wings, breast of lamb etc, Keep it warm. 1 Quote Link to post

Thanks mate, I got it on Friday but changed the food it was getting as it was asda smart price stuff. Dog was skin and bone when i got it. Got the wee man on Red mills as on the site it says they are suitable for puppies, eating scrambled egg aswell. Starting to see a difference already and its only a few days. 1 Quote Link to post
flipbull 1,139
Have you got kids mate? Because the bellend who has off loaded your pup so early hasn't given it time to socialise with it's litter mates properly. The pup will probably bite fook out the kids hands etc with them needles of teeth it's got. Would of learnt bite restriction with litter mates. Atb with your pup, sounds like it well be better off with you. Quote Link to post

When its nibbling my hands its not really sore but i dont know if thats just because it doesnt have alot of jaw power yet. my neighbour/lamping buddie has a pup aswell so i am trying to give it as much time with that as possible. I wouldn't let it be seeing to many strange dogs outside the house until it has it's jabs mate. Yeah mate i know, only letting it see this dog until it gets its jags. Lets it burn off a little energy when its getting flung about haha! Quote Link to post

planete 120
I have moistened pup's food with Lactol puppy milk replacement when they have been very young. It does help bring them on and puts flesh on them. Start with only a little then increase it over a few days. Quote Link to post
