Tremo 138
Hi chaps. I'm looking to get my hands on some new (or once fired) brass. Is anyone aware of any good deals going on? Suggestions on quality, or experiences with the brass that is currently on the market would be appreciated. Tremo Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
You would probably find it easier to get some new brass mate as .22-250 is not really a popular target shooting round, try Henry Kranks in Leeds mate, PPU brass is not bad at all, it is quite thick so take care to work up from minimum charge, as the case capacity can be a little less than thinner brands, my favourite brass in .243 is Federal, Winchester is not bad brass either pal, I would avoid Remington if possible. slipper 116
What's wrong with remington cc? Its what I've been using Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
In truth probably nothing, I just have an aversion to Remington ammunition, both rimfire and centerfire,I just dont like the stuff, I think its poorly made, never had any that would group well in anything. Thanks CC. I have been having a good look around at some of the suppliers online already. The PPU stuff does look inviting, but I have read that it can be very hit and miss from case to case. I guess for that price though I put up with a few discards. Good shooting mate. Trem Quote Link to post
slipper 116
Sorry to hijack your thread tremo but if I can just ask what are the best primers? Quote Link to post
andyf 144
Hi: Sorry to confirm, but 22.250 'once fired' isn't a starter, no bulk usage out there to generate the stuff. I have Winchester and Remington brass, both are fine, that said in my rifle (Ruger No1) the brass only lasts about 2>4 reloads then I get split necks, not a unique experience as I used to have a Browning A bolt Varmint in 22.250 and that split necks as well? Primers I use CCI No 250, (Bullets Sierra 55gr HP boat tail (1390), 36 grains of R15 powder). Quote Link to post

Tremo 138
Thanks for all the replies guys. I placed an order for some new PPU brass on Tuesday, so I'll see how that turns out. I used to shoot Sako factory ammo in this calibre, and that's the brass that I've been using to reload with. I use Federal Premium Gold Match primers, Nosler Varmageddon 55gr tipped, and Hodgdon's CF3 223. Quote Link to post
smoothly 2
I use only remmy in my 22,250 its a tikka stainless and it loves the stuff 55gn psp and very accurate, ive loads of brass as well were a bit spoilt for shops here though theres loads of rfd,s in a smallish area one sells remmy psp 55gn for £17.00 a box or £81.00 hundred not as cheap as privi but at that price i dont reload. Tremo 138
For £17 a box I don't think that I would be bothered reloading either. Happy days! Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Blooming hell that's cheap. I'm paying £28 a box of hornady superformance Quote Link to post
Tremo 138
My local RFD charges £28 for a box of Sako. Believe it or not they want over £30 for the Superformance. You can see now why it was not only the "... improved accuracy" that pushed me towards reloading. Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Crazy. Definitely going to look into reloeding just a little scary even thinking about it to be honest. Can get standard hornady vmax for £24 a box and Winchester soft points for £22 a box Quote Link to post
Tremo 138
I'd stick with the VMAX for £24 a box mate. Well as long as the stock price stays that low anyway. . Reloading does incur quite a substantial initial outlay for the necessary equipment. I can now reload my 22-250 for about forty-odd pence a shot. Even though I am saving about a £1 a shot compared to the factory ammo prices, the whole reloading exercise gives me much more. As well as it giving me the opportunity to match a ideal round combination to my specific rifle, it also allows me to "tinker". Don't get me wrong, I'm no guru to this black art by no stretch of imagination, but by reloading I have gained a much better understanding of how/why it goes pop. Quote Link to post
