1St Time Lurcher

Recommended Posts

Hello guys/girls, I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I'm new to the site I will learn :-D I'm looking for some advice on buying my first lurcher. I'll mainly be going for rabbits. Iv'e seen bedlington whippets but I love the smooth coat lurcher and the strong whippet or greyhound type. I was wondering how the racey bullgreyhound are bred? I know it shouldn't matter how the dog looks, any advice would be much appreciated thanks guys.

If you want more of a specialist rabbit dog probably collie or bedlington for me. Everyone will have there own ideas of what makes a good rabbit dog and this is just my idea. If i was you something thats mainly whippet/greyhound with whatever other dog you like the look of thrown in. At the end of the day most lurchers will catch rabbits even the really heavy types or types bred for other jobs and you have got to like the dog you get.

I'd be carful if your going for collie x check the breeder out because you could be getting some rescue greyhound x KC COLLIE it may just turn you away from this game, I wouldn't even think about the cross just find someone who is working both parents to your intended quarry and take it from there, be willing to travel as well mate

nice dog that, either something like that x, or 1/4 collie x3/4 grey, because most who start out sooner or later bump into other quarry , and the 1/4 collie 3/4 grey spot on for most stuff , or the x on this thread  a 1/4 collie plenty in a lurcher you don't need any more .!

Just get out and see some litters ,the main thing is that the parents do what you want ,.see a fair few litters before you make your choice ,take your time though as they are with you a good many years.

Be a pain and ask questions ,or take.someone with you who knows a bit more if you don't feel too confident.

I'm sure you'll have a few pms from sellers soon
