Patterdale X Lakeland Terrier Advice!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I've got a patterdale x Lakeland terrier that's around 7 years old.

Up until now I had no idea i could actually use her prey drive for a good use!

My girlfriend brought her hamster over a few weeks ago, and pippy (the dog..) didn't take her eyes off him, and was physically shaking.

Now I've seen the website and that ratting is common, how would people reccomend I start with her? Just to be clear with it I'm not looking to make money from her, I just know it's good enrichment for her which is more important.

P.s

Don't be fooled by how cute she is!!

Have you got any permission to take her on? When I started my terrier, I just took her to the pig farm up the road and let her work around the used bedding and before you know it she's charging around the place digging out rats! Instinct kicks in! Another option is to get a rat in a live rat trap and let her have a go. I'm sure a lot of blokes on here have some other ideas but all the best with her. :)

do not go with live trap go to permission and dig some of failing that go to local pet shop and get a bag of used rat bedding put it in a sock and play with her with it fetch and seek that sort of thing so she gets the smell then its a case of finding some where you can hunt

If you do go down this route, remember its illegal so dont go telling people or putting it on the internet

Obviously I meant, let it have a sniff then dispatch the rat quickly and humanely... :)
